Time to switch to DirecTV (and save money)!
If you live in the Boise area and want to be able to watch every BSU football game at home you have 2 options: CableOne or DirecTV. If you want CBS Sports & Versus in HD, DirecTV is your only option (6 games this season are on these channels). And if you're looking to make the switch for as little $$ as possible, then check out these options:
Option #1 (UPDATE: EXPIRED): Switch to DirecTV and receive a $180 Costco Cash Card. Expires 10/5/11.
Option #2: Switch to DirecTV and be referred by me and we'll both save $100. You'll need my last name, account #, & phone #. Email me (leadtrumpetdave AT gmail) for these details. If you know someone else with DTV and want them to refer you, the promotion works for any customer.
Now, these 2 promotions are not supposed to be redeemed together, but, if you're feeling lucky, you can give option #3 a shot. It worked for me!
Option #3 (Since option #1 is expired, this one is too): Because the offers are not compatible you can't try this online; you'll have to bite the bullet and spend 30-45 minutes on the phone with a sales rep. (UPDATE: I've heard there is no runaround involved now. Just ask and they'll give you both.) Call 1-800-372-0199 and kindly explain to the rep that you want to receive the Costco card, but you couldn't find a way to be referred on the online order form. My rep said, "they are not redeemable together, but let me talk to my supervisor." She came back and said she would be able to do it, & I suspect this will work for most people.
If you think this is just an attempt to get referrals, you're half right! I also want all my fellow nuggies to be able to get a good deal on the best TV package for watching our Broncos.
Update: If you happen to be stuck in a contract with Dish or your cable company, DirecTV will pay you up to $200 (via cash card) to cover your cancellation fees!

May have to try this..
…still have about 9 months left on 2yr. DISH contract. But, with $180 costco card it should cover any pro-rated charges by DISH.
SWEET deal….will try later and re-post my progress.
About the same on my contract.
I’m working almost every weekend Boise plays, so DVRing the games is particularly important to me… so it could be worth the switch. The real hard part for me is my wife. She hated the DTV technology in comparison to Dish. The menu and search system seems to be pretty lame. But I don’t know if that’s been changed yet.

We just got DirecTV installed on Saturday.
I agree, overall Dish has nicer hardware & technology. I actually prefer the search functionality on DTV, but Dish’s DVR options are superior. DTV has some very nice navigation features, like a 9-channel quick jump & custom favorite lists viewable in the guide. The DTV remote is bulky and poorly designed. With Dish, I could connect my off-air antenna to get, essentially, a 3rd, locals-only, tuner on my dual tuner DVR. DTV’s whole-home DVR has nice features, especially if you have more than 2 TVs to hook up, but it won’t connect to my antenna. With DTV, ESPNU is in HD, as is ESPN-News. The Mtn has been great so far, as they are constantly replaying old games; I’ve been getting my fix! Finally, don’t forget the best feature of all: I get to watch EVERY BSU GAME!

As noted in update above,
DirecTV will pay your Dish cancellation fees for you.

My Dish contract ran out early last summer.
I purposefully stayed off-contract just so I could switch to DTV in the event that Dish did not add The Mtn, which obviously didn’t happen. I’m so glad I did!
I calculated the costs, and over 2 years with the current promotion, DTV is cheaper than off-contract Dish when you upgrade to the Top 250 during football season only, much cheaper if you keep that package year-round.

anything wireless is coming out tomorrow.
I am excited as I haven’t had any dish/cable for a few years. So glad I get to record games and rewatch them whenever I want this year.
Are you getting DirecTV? Are they offering a better deal than I listed above?

@D_Summit
DirecTV it is. I'm getting an HD dvr and just a regular HD receiver for $41 the first 10 months
It will go up to $51 for the remaining two months then $61 for the second year. Sorry, my brother in law told me about the $100 incentive thing a month ago so I had to give it to him.

Ha, no worries
I actually meant to add that anyone on DTV can refer you. Glad you got a deal!

I finally did it and it's easier now!!
I called the number above and expected to have to go the supervisor route but when I asked, the rep said “No problem” and got me the Costco card and the referral credit without any hassle. Sounds like it’s routine to allow both if the customer simply asks. I am now paying less per month for DirecTV and getting more channels than I had with DISH Network.
When I called to cancel my existing service, the DISH Network rep kept trying to check and see if they might possibly offer the programming (the Mtn. Channel) that I was leaving for. He said “Does BSU play in the Big Ten Conference?”, obviously about to offer access to the Big Ten Network. Than he said “well, we do have ESPN Gameplan”, to which I said “you obviously know nothing about the Mountain West Conference. None of their games are allowed to be aired on ESPN networks.” He finally relented and proceeded to cancel my service.
The only thing I have left to do now is to send in my cancellation fee cash card form. Thanks D_Summit!!!
