I HATE this logo!
They took away the best part… the MOUNTAINS! Besides the fact that mountains have tons of positive associations (rugged, natural, green, independent, strong), having a picture that references itself in a logo is a great way to build a brand. Any marketing 101 class would have given this logo an F.
I hate to say bad things about people, but this logo TOTALLY SUCKS! Does anyone else get the feeling “The Hair” felt like he had to put his paw prints on something… especially in light of the fact that he lost out on the latest round of conference musical chairs? God help us if this is any indication of what’s to come…

A set of “Corporate” mountain logos…
with color…
A set of sports-themed mountain logos…

I'll go on record now and state that I kinda like the logo.
Yes, it has a Dr. Who vibe as Haberman pointed out, and it’s a little Nintendo 64-ish…but it does have a modern look to it. I really don’t understand why purple needs to be central to the logo, however.

I think it is lame. Liked the old logo better. Should have just replaced purple with blue.

I liked the old Mountain West logo, but
since we’re not in the old Mountain West, I guess the new logo does a nice job of representing the new Mountain Wac conference.

He mentioned a couple times that they wanted a corporate logo look and the company that came up with it specialized in corporate logos. It might look good on a polo shirt or coffee mug but it is way too boring for a football field, basketball court, or jersey.

why in the world would you want a corporate logo for a college football conference? its college football, we have college football logos and sports logos for a reason. This logo looks like it took 5 minutes to come up with too, its not even a creative corporate logo. four thumbs down.
I watched the presser and they were proud of the fact that it looked corporate.

I think what bugs me about the logo is that it is so cold, geometric, and angular. Mountains are curvacious, mountains are muscular, and mountains are invitingly challenging. The West is not a cubicle, the West is not concrete, the West is rugged independence. That logo could just as easily be “Moneygrubbing Weasels”

IF I remember right, i think we paid in the neighborhood of 30k for our logo, to an out-of-state firm.
I designed logo’s for most of the business’s we printed tshirts for for 50 bucks…and had a HELL of a time getting that!!!!!
But, that was a different time and Boise.
Twas 85 thou BSU paid for the new uni logo.

The "Bronco" head logo and the BSU logo (three rectangles) were paid to one firm in the neighborhood of $300 k
That’s $300,000 not ref to you k. Many were angry. The painting that hangs above the city was also paid to out of state firm, the horror on the side of the Grove Hotel (supposed to look like the Boise River; it looks like a semi hit the side of the building)paid to out of state moron, lots of $ for ugly tasteless art, paid because our people are too insecure to call krap krap.

The reason for the corporate look..
is the MW is prepping for their time to shine as a big money conference. They know it’s practically in the bag for the MW to receive an auto-bid to the BCS after this season, for two years anyway. Remember folks, theres a HUGE difference between reaching the BCS as a non-AQ and the AQ, in the order of tens of millions of dollars. Bottom of the conference, you better step it up over the next few years, because if the BCS is really around to stay, we need more than big blue to hold up this conference in terms of AQ eligibility. I fully believe that Hawaii, Fresno and Nevada have the potential to be BCS caliber mid-range teams, and teams like Air Force, SDSU and perhaps even Colorado State are almost at that level as well. Wyoming, New Mexico, UNLV, these are all major schools (if not the largest in their state) that have no reason to be performing at Division 1-AA levels.
