My take on the Spring Game.

Dextrel Simmons was great tonight, I thought. He made some big plays, swatted at least one ball down, had at least one sack, and I thought that he looked better than White (not that White looked bad at all). I fully expect him to be starting this fall. Next I just want to see him make a flying squirrel tackle.

I also really liked seeing a deep stable of backup running backs who seem to be competent at worst. Wright had a couple of pretty good runs and I think I will give him the nod out of the backups that they were giving all of the snaps. Martin is a muscle hamster and nothing else needs to be said about him except for that he has seemed to learn how to jump over people as well as "give them a mouthfull". I cant wait to see Harper back on the field and make a fool out of UGA’s D in Sept.

The 80 yard punt was phenomenal. It was the only thing all night that made my mouth hang wide open. But Coach Pete was saying that Harman has either amazingly long punts or terribly short ones and not much in between. It would be nice to see him find the consistency that he needs. It will be interesting to see who ends up with the kicking duties this Sept.

Billy Winn was absolutely dominant. He is a force to be reckoned with. He is the reason that mothers don’t want their children to play football. I could use a dozen more cliche’ terms and it still would not describe how awesome he was today. While many people gave Hiwat the thumbs up on player of the spring game, I absolutely give it to Winn (not that Hiwat wasn’t great tonight as well). Kevan already mentioned how he was wrecking Leno at DE. I was trying to point out that Billy was playing DE to the guy next to me who was giving me a blank and confused stare and then asked me," doesn’t Billy Winn always play defense", when he made that great jump over Lambert. I almost stroked out when he went down, tried to get back up, and then absolutely collapsed when he tried to put pressure on that left leg. I think the left side of my face feels numb. Thank God Coach Pete doesn’t think it’s serious and that there are 5 more months for anything minor to heal up. I would love to see them throw Billy in at DE for a confusion/shock and awe play in Georgia and Billy break his foot off in Murray’s you know what.

Dan Paul has tree trunks for legs.

The defense should always dominate in a scrimmage in my opinion (especially a D like ours) because they practice against these guys every day. They know all the plays and its hard to pull the wool over the eyes of a defense like ours when they know what’s coming. I cant ever remember being very impressed with our offense in a scrimmage game. Kellen didn’t look so hot last year during scrimmage if I remember correctly but come time to play against a defense that hadn’t practiced against him every day he was his old self. I would be very concerned if our quarterbacks were able to pick our D apart.

And now for the cold, long, dark winter of my discontent to begin. Also known as summer in Boise.
