Top 10 Boise State football games for next season
Boise State's 2012 schedule is filled with some exciting matchups, some old rivals, and a comforting lack of Air Force. Here are the Top 10 games on the 2012 schedule, as I see them ... which is through jaded, Zoob-hating eyes.
No. 10 - vs. Miami (OH), September 15 - High-scoring MAC action hits the blue turf when the RedHawks come to town. The RedHawks are one of those high-scoring MAC teams and not one of the Akron-type MAC teams, right? I can't be bothered to keep track.
No. 9 - @ Nevada - The last time the Broncos were at Mackey Stadium ... nothing interesting happened. Moving on!
No. 8 - vs. Fresno State - Would have ranked higher if we still had the Pat Hill Unintentional Comedy factor.
No. 7 - @ Wyoming - I guess.
No. 6 - @ Hawaii - Here's hoping for a trash storm, for old time's sake.
No. 5 - vs. San Diego State - The Aztecs are the Broncos' newest conference rival and the only conference rival (for now) that they'll be taking with them to the Big East.
No. 4 - @ Southern Miss, October 6 - Though the BroncoSports website no longer lists this game as happening, I have already got my hopes up about a road matchup with one of the best non-BCS teams around. Please do not disappoint me, athletic directors. I can be rather inconsolable.
No. 3 - TBA - The Broncos play at Hawaii this season, meaning they get to play an extra game. That game hasn't been decided yet, but I'm sure it's on new athletic director Mark Coyle's to-do list. Right after press passes for blogs.
No. 2 - vs. BYU, September 22 - Zoobies!
No. 1 - @ Michigan State, Friday, August 31 - For obvious reasons.

They all would be on U of I's Top 10 list.
Mainly because the Vandals would have a chance to win one. Nah….I’m lying. The Vandals would be 0-3 against those teams.

I have to say I can’t wait for that first game, I think the scheduling was a stroke of genius – Friday night, under the lights, going into a long weekend, to kick off the season. This will be a spotlight game for both teams.
So per your guys depth chart, you’ll be losing just about everybody – more even than will MSU. Who will be some of the new people to watch?
WR Matt Miller and RB DJ Harper on offense and quite possibly our entire secondary on Defense
Honestly, we don’t even have a terrific idea who to be excited about at this point.
Make routine visits back after Spring Practice and especially over the summer. We’re really very receptive to other fans here and like to hear their takes on us and their team. We had a three month long extensive discussion with several Georgia fans this past summer that was pretty rewarding for all involved.
I expect MSU to be favored easily over us but I also think the two teams will mirror quite a few of the same obstacles and personnel questions. Should be fun.

we can get one for ’05.

Cannot wait to see what Old Man Harper can do as the lead back.
I of course am assuming that he gets his medical hardship and claims the starting RB spot as a matter of course.

Harper is loaded with talent, a complete back imo. But Malcome Johnson might have something to say about that himself hehe

the one positive about this blog and the editors
is that they are very good and very committed to providing the best information possible.
course, this cuts both ways because it also provides a lot of insight to what deficiencies BSU has. I know coaches most likely never, if ever, go to fan blogs and try to glean information, but if they ever did, this would be the one to go to.
it’s always interesting, as this kind of hype builds, we get a lot of opponents’ fans on these boards to talk a little trash and also some good natured debate.
so, yeah, check back periodically and you’ll know more than you ever really wanted to.

Thanks for the great feedback! and I agree, I think there are a lot of parallels between the two teams. I will be sure to visit obnug over the summer.
Also, I hope the Boise alum & supporters that make the trek to EL for the game stick around for the whole long weekend. I know your region is some beautiful country, but Labor Day weekend is hands down the best weekend in Michigan – the leaves will be changing, the temps still high but humidity low, and everybody will be excited to send off summer with a bang.
If you are coming to MI for this, bring your camera, your golf clubs, and your appetite!
Looking forward to it

let's see
WR – Dallas Burroughs and Geraldo Boldewijn for the deep threat, and Matt Miller for general studliness.
RB – DJ Harper will be a 6th-year senior with a remarkable ability to produce in big-time games. Malcolm Johnson has generated some buzz, but was out this year with a torn ACL, so didn’t get a chance to prove himself.
QB – I am guessing Joe Southwick will be the starter (though it really is up in the air who’ll replace Kellen), but look for Grant Hedrick to display serious wheels on the read option.
CB – Jerrell Gavins and Jamar Taylor are outstanding corners but both fell victim to injuries this year. I believe this was the reason for the loss to TCU, never mind the missed FG at the end.
S – Lee Hightower is a FAST learner (no joke, he turned down a Yale scholly to play Bronco football). He’s a safety, but was forced into action at CB as a true freshman, with disastrous results at first (again, see TCU). He seemed to get the hang of it after a couple games. Jeremy Ioane may emerge as well.
Lines – I think we’re all curious about the future of both lines. Look for Blake Renaud and Corey Bell on defense, and Jake Broyles and Dan Paul (both out with injuries this year) blowing dudes up left and right on offense.
Kickers – reply hazy, ask again later.

Our kicker
will be coming off his redshirt season. So we’ll actually be playing a scholarship player at that position.
I still don’t understand why he was redshirted.

Because Pete said he wasn't kicking as well as the other two guys
Which is really scary.

I cant stand most blog writers
because most of them are just a bunch of clowns who played pop warner football and are therefore experts on all things football. Its like playing little league and expecting to learn how to play baseball from an overweigh coach who throws like a girl.
This blog, however, is amazingly the opposite. The football knowledge that these guys show throughout the season is quite impressive. From correcting myths about the wildcat formation to breakdowns of plays after games. Its like going back to the film room! Great stuff. You guys are doing a great job here at OBNUG, keep up the good work!

Agreed
There was an entry last year that broke down the stats after the game that I really enjoyed. there was one particular entry with a breakdown of 1st , 2nd, 3rd, and 4th downs and their effectiveness but the whole column was fascinating. It just shows how good our editors are. They make the content funnier and more meaningfullerish with every edition.
So this Irishman walks out of the bar....No really, he walked out...
At the end of season will they get a shot at:
The Potpourri Bowl or
Serendipity Bowl? Judging by this line up, both bowls are in play even if they don’t exist.
However, Bowls aside I look forward to BSU providing pablum for the punditry of America.
The only thing the BCS has to fear is fear itself and Blue is the color of fear.

I think...
Wyoming will be much more interesting this coming year. Hell, they made a pretty good half of it before the self inflicted wounds. New DC is a nice step forward.
Go ahead and name Wyoming's new DC, Josh
You don’t need to hide it, and you’ll find that Bronco Nation knows it well.
CHRIS TORMEY !
Yes, THAT Chris Tormey. The classless jerk who piled it on a dying Pokey Allen. As you know from my answer to your question on Mountain West Connection, the Broncos have a very serious score to settle with this bw.
http://www.reddit.com/r/BSUFootball/comments/e5aeu/the_pokey_allen_story_told_by_shawn_sandoval_why/
Therefore, any inclusion of Wyoming in the Top 10 Bronco games of 2012 just won’t happen. The Cowboys will be made to suffer from the Tormey Torment.
