Concerning the Poinsettia and Las Vegas Bowls

I want to apologize to all of Bronco Nation for my " negativity" as of late. Specifically, my bashing of the Poinsettia Bowl and my not much better attitude toward the Las Vegas Bowl. It's just that Ive been following BSU for years and I love and respect this program so much. It really irks me that this group of BSU seniors will not be given a chance to show the nation just how good they are by playing in a BCS bowl. They derserve better than a fourth tier bowl. ( refer to my post on bowl tier analysis) I want them to get the respect that is due to them. These two bowls just don't seem worthy of a team of BSU's caliber?

Having said that, all I can do is elaborate a little on the two bowls in question: Poinsettia and Las Vegas.

The Poinsettia Bowl was created as a companion bowl to the Holiday Bowl. For some misguided reason, the committee of this bowl feels that they are worthy of having a top ranked team play in their bowl every year? (2008 was an apparition when #9 BSU played #11 TCU. The next week 2 more top 15 teams in Oregon and Ok State played in the Holiday Bowl. Do they think that will happen every year? LOL) The problem is that the bowl payout is only 500k per team. With that low payout , why should you expect to have a top ranked team in your game? What's even more puzzling, is why they think La Tech is a worthy opponent for BSU or TCU for that matter? One would think that they would try an schedule a game that was competitive? Wyoming or SDSU would be a much more competitive game, and La Tech would have a much greater chance of winning. IF BSU lands in this game, the laughter in the college football sportscatser world will be really loud. The only ones that won't be laughing are the La Tech football program after they are the recipient of BSU's rage and get totally demolished on- as they say- a "national stage".

The Las Vegas Bowl used to be the California Raisin Bowl, then moved to Las Vegas. This is a 1million dollar payout per team ( a little more respecatble) and generally has two better known teams in the game. BYU got tired of being in this game- and I don't blame them- now it's apparent that it belongs to BSU if they don't get a BCS bowl? The matchup here is gonna be one of the bottom tier PAC 12 teams , which really isn't that impressive. In fact, it takes away a great deal of the appeal from the bowl as a whole. One would think that a bowl in LAS VEGAS would have a much higher payout? Yes Maaco sponsors the game. But you would think that all those casinos would put some into the kitty and try and turn this bowl into a better known, better viewed, and better regarded contest?

Don't get me wrong. I will support BSU no matter what bowl they land up playing. I just want this group of seniors to go out like the champions WE ALL know they are! Beating La Tech or a botom of the barrel PAC 12 just doesn't seem befitting a team of BSU's caliber? What say you Bronco Nation? Maybe my fellow Bronco fans can get me excited about these two bowls. ?
