MWC requests AQ BCS bid for 2012 and 2013 seasons

The "mighty' Mountain West Conference has petitioned the BCS to grant them Automatic Qualifying status in 2012 and 2013. The MWC says that they have met the requirements set forth by the BCS for such a request, based on the performance of TCU in past seasons, and both TCU and Boise State this season. They are barred from using Utah's 2008 BCS bowl performance because they left the conference in the 2011 season.

I'll say yay if it happened, because that would mean Boise might get an AQ spot next season. But I personally doubt the BCS will grant the MWC AQ status because of two factors:

1) TCU will not be a member of the MWC in 2012 or 2013

2) The BCS will also determine that since Boise State will not be a member in 2013 -- and as the only BCS worthy non-AQ left, they figure Boise State will probably get the 2012 automatic non-AQ spot anyway, if they are ranked in the top 16.

Without those two teams the MWC will have no BCS worthy teams and their champ would be worse than the current crop of Big East champs. At least the Big East champ is usually ranked.
