Wake up, Bronco Nation: Boise State football links and things, 12-12-11
Boise State falls to LSU 64-55 Saturday night
Boise State shot an abysmal 29.8% from the field and 28% from three. Standout freshman Anthony Drmic was held scoreless on 7 attempts on the night even missing 2 free throw attempts. There will be plenty for Leon Rice and the guys to work on this week before they play Denver in Denver on Saturday night.
Fan travel was a concern with Boise State's move to the Big East
This is an understandable point, but Boise State is never going to be in a conference where pretty much any road game would be within a 6 hour drive like the SEC. I know that we get a fair amount of people that are outside the Boise area. Anyone else excited about being able to catch Boise State games within driving distance from their homes now?
Scout.com analyst gives us an overview of Boise State's 2012 recruiting class
He talks about how far Boise State has come to be consistently beating out Pac 12 schools for guys and also gives us a few guys to watch as we get closer to signing day. And don't worry, Nick Patti is still committed to the Broncos and was thrilled to learn about the impending move to the Big East.
Titus Young keeps getting better with 87 yards on 4 catches with a TD yesterday (HT: TDown)
The TD was on a 57 yard pass that you can see here. Great job, Titus. Now wrap up that ball.
Larry Scott wants to play Pac 12 games in China
I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, it's a brilliant business move. On the other hand, how will this affect the athletes? This is different from basketball teams taking a trip over the summer to play some exhibition games. He's talking about playing actual, meaningful (ha!) regular season games over in China. Well, it sure can't help their quality of football.
Utah State head coach Gary Anderson has a new tattoo to commemorate Utah State making a bowl
It's a result of a bet that he made with his team before the season. I like this idea. I say Boise State try this and brand Chris Petersen so he can always look in the mirror when another schools comes calling.
Kevin Sumlin is the new coach at Texas A&M, Houston to return to mediocrity
Don't get me wrong, I don't want Houston to return to mediocrity, but with the departure of Keenum and now Sumlin, it looks very possible that is what could happen. Maybe they have a bright, up and coming assistant who can take the reigns there in Houston and keep the tradition going because Boise State needs Houston to be decent.
Happy Birthday

I love the conference switch!
Cincinnati is just a four hour drive or so for me, and Louisville not much further than that. I’ll be at every Boise game in those locations.
Thanks to Ohio State's president, I will never root for a Big Ten football program again (except in extenuating circumstances that aid my primary rooting interest).

Love the move
Being in Central Florida, I love this move, the fact that both USF and UCF are less than an hour form my house. This is a great opportunity for me, PLUS there really are multiple BSU fans, even casual fans here. Think of it like March Madness in Boise. People show up to see the teams live that they have seen on TV. The same will hold true for BSU in these other locations. Everyone is intersted to actually see Cinderella play ball. And on the flip side, the cost of Airfare from Boise to Orlando/Tampa is usually less than airfare to Larime, Las Cruces, Hawaii, and many of the other places we go, plus consider this fact, today, at both schools, the high is expected to be 80 degrees. And the temperature of the Water at the Tampa beach is supposed to be a balmy 72 degrees. Not such a bad trip to make to watch the Broncos. even if you have to spend an extra hour in the air.
The travel doesn't matter to me.
i’m not fortunate enough to go to (many) away games when they had “closer” games anyway. i have to watch the games on TV whether they’re home or away anyway. (i was fortunate, if you want to say that, enough to watch the TCU game at the stadium, but that was it this year.)
the only game i was able to see away was when they played UW in Seattle. cool game to go to. ’cept for the whole “losing” part.
so, while i do wish i could go to more away games, i definitely think this is a great move for them.
and, hey, maybe if BSU wins the Big East, they’ll just get picked up by the Fiesta bowl instead of the Orange bowl those particular years. when they’re not in the MNC game (snark).

I've never travelled to see BSU on the road before
But if we play Rutgers away you better bet I’m road tripping there!
I also agree with Adam, fans seem to be coming out of the woodwork at these games and I think a lot of there are converted fans wanting to see us play and root for us. It’s a great opportunity for Bronco fans living in these locations to get their friends and others behind BSU as well.
I like
the idea of having being able to have students go to away games. Of course, out in the middle of nowhere like BSU is, limits those possibilities.. Not a fan of the move, especially if/when they get rid of the whole system. People already think the Big East is trash to begin with. Us joining and winning isn’t going to change that.

meh.
the perception of the Big East isn’t going to change, you’re right. statistically speaking, they don’t have bottom dwellers per se but they have a bunch of middling teams that “beat each other up”.
i’m not a fan of the move either, but had to be done. BSU has to do everything it can to make sure they’re on the right side for once.

Sure...
If we could get a conference with NNU, and Albertsons college, that would make sense, but outside of them and CSI, we are looking at BYU/Utah, Maybe Oregon and Reno… Either way it’s a road trip to go to games. When I was a student, I made the road trip to Reno and Provo for games, but the way things sit now, we will have those games as well. As for the Big East being percieved as Trash… Well that is true, They see the big east as trash, but they see the MWC as raw sewage, and the WAC as hazerdous waste. We have to get away from those two confereces… Like anyone else, I would much rather see us in the PAC 10/12/16 first and the Big 12 second, but its better to be Big East than to face the other options. Hopefully the funds and profile upgrade will get us more academic programs, which would make us more appealing to the PAC, or better sports outside of football which makes us more appealing to the Big 12. Seeing how 20 years ago we were in the i-AA, we are moving along preatty fast right now…
I try to avoid crossing into New Jersey as much as possible...
But it’s only an hour’s drive from my house to Rutgers, so I’ll make the sacrifice and head over there. UConn is something like two hours…so I’ll be there also. And depending on if Syracuse is still around, maybe I’ll try that too…about 4-5 hours.

After that, everyone’s just BENNYs
by BSUbluNorange on Dec 12, 2011 11:44 AM PST up reply actions
I'm going to assume almost no one actually knows that term...
So it’s Wikipedia time!
Benny is a derogatory term used by year-round residents of the Jersey Shore to describe rude, flashy, loud, tourists from northern New Jersey and New York. While local residents appreciate the tourists’ economic contribution, the term “Benny” specifically refers to only those unpleasant tourists that cut lines, drive recklessly, start fights, harass women, or deliver other disrespect. Some say “Benny” originated as an acronym for the tourists’ residency—in Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, or New York (B,E,N,NY).1 The term has expanded to encompass all obnoxious non-resident tourists (i.e. tourists from northern New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) who collectively frequent the Jersey Shore from Memorial Day to Labor Day, crowding local roads, stores, beaches, and restaurants. The term “Benny” is predominantly used by local residents of beachfront towns in Ocean County and Monmouth County
I would say that makes me a Benny, except that I hate the Jersey Shore.

"Luey The Left-Over" is accused of being two faced in interrogation.
However, Loey The Left-Over’s lawyer pointed out he is not two faced, its a case of mistaken identity. We had interrogated Frank and Louie of a different spelling as he shouted his legalese at the Mr. Fiskers investigation team. Frank and Louie should be held for double talk not Luey The Left-OVER!
