Noteworthy: Stanfords SOS score worsened despite the win vs USC. An example of why is ASU playing like a Dennis Erickson team and losing to UCLA (along with the overal dismal performance of the PAC12 this year). Boise faced UNLV in a conference game that obviously dropped their SOS values as well. Both teams are headed in the wrong direction however both teams face teams this week that will improve their SOS. I do not believe the Oregon game will be enough of a boost to put Stanford ahead of Boise in the BCS computer SOS rankings given the 13 point slide Stanford suffered this week. Also, this indicates to me that Stanford has little chance to pass a 1 loss Bama even if they remain undefeated unless the human voters change direction and force it. Stanford doesn't seem to have enough chances to improve in the computers because of the overall weakness (from a computer standpoint) of the PAC12 this year.
Oddly, most years it is complaints about the computer bias towards the PAC12 that we hear. Such a strange system we have :)
Below I have included the raw results and average of all scores. For perspective I have also included the average for Stanford and Boise with the highest ranking discarded as this is how the BCS creates the composite score element.
Adjusted Averages - BCS Computer SOS 11/08
Stanford: 67.75 (last week Stanfords adjusted average was 54)
Stanford dropped by 13.75 points from last week. Boise dropped by 25 points (UNLV hammered the SOS scores as predicted). Boise will SOS will improve next week and then what happens depends largely on how prior teams they have played finish the season. Now that Boise's average is signficantly higher and their are more teams in the average the final game vs New Mexico will not have nearly the same dramatic impact as the UNLV game did.

Disclaimer: I think the BCS system is garbage. At the same time I recognize this is the system we are currently stuck with and I do my best to understand it (more art than science is that endeavor).
