BYU to Big East?
I've been hearing news that a lot of BSU fans are not happy with BYU being considered for Big East membership. Most of the negativity isn't based on what BYU brings to the table. BYU comes from the 34th largest media market. In addition, there are from 750,000 to 1,000,000 other BYU fans outside of that market. They are the only non-BCS school to ever win a national championship. And what they could add to the BCS AQ formula would almost guarantee that the Big East will keep its AQ status after 2014 bowl games (assuming the other six come too). It's a no brainer for BSU fans who aren't biased. Imagine the rivalry that would begin with them coming here every other year. Imagine driving 5-6 hours to see a football game in a sold out 61,000 seat stadium every other year. Only a BSU fan with irrational hatred would be against this. I'm a BYU loather, but come on...this would be very positive for BSU.

I hadn't really heard that anyone was against them joining the Big East
I think it would make a lot of sense to have them there as well. We’re already scheduled to play them for a million years anyway.
BSU at Rutgers or UConn? I am SO there.
Re: I don't understand it either
I don’t hate BYU, I like them but why anyone would say that this wouldn’t be good either for the Big East/Boise State is just stupid or blind. BYU has a good history of producing winning seasons and are the only non-BCS affiliated school that has ever produced a national championship. As a football only addition they are almost perfectly positioned to do this. BYU has a satisfactory arrangement with it’s other sports in the WCC, so no hassle there. They also have no conference affiliation so they could join whenever they wanted. The only hang-up I see is their current TV/Media deal. As for what this means for Boise State, it gives us a travel partner, a school that is closer than any of our MWC counterparts (even the additions next year), two schools that have already scheduled each other for the next 12 years.
For the Big East
1) A team with a perennial winning record
2) A team with a national championship
3) A team that can regularly fill it’s BCS Capacity stadium and has fans all over the country who will gladly show up to the games. This would be a great media market addition.
4) A HUGE shot in the arm for keeping their AQ status
5) Another team to keep it’s western schools happy and can shift one of the more eastern schools over to the east division thereby cutting down on travel costs for them
6) Keeps schools with overall losing records out of the picture (ie Memphis) which they cannot afford to add to their ranks in order to have a serious shot at keeping AQ status.
I haven't heard anyone who's against it...?
It’d be smart for Boise State, BYU, and Air Force to go together in a western division of the Big East. Aside from basically locking up the conference title every year, it gives all three teams regional western rivals.
It’s a good move IMO.

I haven't heard BSU fans booing a BYU invite either...
I’m all for it! That’d be an easy road game to get to also
Good move.

BYU is Welcome
I despise BYU and I hope we take the QB from Eagle away from them, but I would like to see them in the Big East.

Talk shows in SLC were all about this.
One of the primary subjects was all the scheduling problems that BYU had this year and will continue to see in the future. After their loss to TCU, they had a week off, they have Idaho, week off, New Mexico State, and finally Hawaii. Next November they have no games scheduled yet. Being independent is a huge scheduling problem for them. Coach Mendehall (I refuse to use his first name: sacrilege!) is pushing for an invitation it sounded like in his radio interview.
BYU would be great to have as a rival…maybe our biggest rival every year. I would love to see it. And guess what, we already have a mess of games scheduled with them.
BYU makes this new league look better all the way around. And think of it: they would be our closest road trip! An easy drive.

Not sure if scheduling is really that bad
I know it hasn’t been 100% easy but I think they lined up Washington State and a couple of others, however the knuckle-heads claiming Boise should go independent should take heed from this. ;)
It's a shame..
It’s a shame the new look Big East won’t have TCU and WVU in it. It could have been a pretty solid football conference.
I think most BSU fans were exited for the 8 year BSU/BYU contract, so I don't know why this would be different.
With that said I do live in Salt Lake City and I can attest to their being a lot of people that think moving into a conference with BYU is stupid. But then again they are mostly Utah fans.
its lonely out there...
C’mon Cougs, lets take the green brick road (the color of money) together. Both fan bases will get into it. Think how apoplectic Prater will get – two big rivalry games per year for him (along with Utah/BYU).
I will root for Alabama or Ohio State if they play the Chinese...maybe.
I will root for Auburn if they play Al Qaida, Hamas or the Phillies
