I understand where it's coming from, but it's misguided. We're hating on them because we're mad that they play an easy schedule and will very likely get a BCS bowl over us if they win out (note: Houston/Tulsa game still in progress).
While I understand everybody's frustration, we have to realize a few things.
1. Not so long ago, Boise DID play a soft schedule like Houston's this year. We wanted respect. Everybody said, "Play somebody." We wanted everybody to respect and recognize the talent of our QB. Everybody said, "His stats are good but he doesn't play anybody."
And now I see the same arguments coming from us Boise fans. Houston doesn't play anybody. Their schedule is soft. Keenum is overrated. Double standard among Bronco fans?
2. It's not Houston that is to blame for their schedule. They play who they can and have won. Period. This should sound very familiar to us, so I can't understand when we became such elitists that we can't give credit to a team and a quarterback that are in the same position as us a few short years ago and are, to an extent, still in.
You have to give credit where credit is due. Keenum is a good quarterback. Period. Houston is winning games. Period.
We as Boise State fans can't have it both ways. If we're going to advocate for our team's legitimacy, we can't turn around and call other teams and players overrated for doing exactly what we did. We sound more like the BCS apologists and "big boy" school elitist haters than Boise State fans when it comes to Houston.
We should be the very ones praising Keenum and Houston, not making the same lame-duck arguments against them that were (and still are) made against us. To go undefeated in any conference in division 1A is a feat to be lauded. How many teams, no matter how "easy" or "soft" their schedule can go undefeated or even have one loss in any given year? Very few.
I’m rooting against them in the Tulsa game, but that’s only for our own ends (boost our SoS with a Tulsa win and a simple path to a BCS bowl). IF Houston wins, I’ll be rooting for them the rest of the way. I think they can beat a lot of those top 10 teams and would love to see them do so.
I hope we as a fanbase can recognize the respect they deserve if we're to demand the same respect. Double standards just don't work for me.
