So yeah, I posted this on the ESPN message board regarding the game, and you can imagine the flames that appeared. However, it had to be said.
Get prepared for some Boise State homerism. Skip the post if you can't handle it.
This is why Coach Chris Petersen and QB Kellen Moore will always be seen as a better coach/player than Coach Kevin Sumlin and QB Case Keenum. With a score like that at the end of the third quarter, Kellen would have been on the sidelines coaching the backup quarterbacks and the third string offense would have been in to get the experience and finish the game, knowing that victory was assured.
I find it incredibly classless that the Houston coaching staff would have their QB run up the score like this, just for some meaningless individual accomplishment. Five years from now after Case has graduated and is working as a sales rep for State Farm, his main selling point will not be that he is the career leader in touchdowns for Division 1 college football. (Don't mention that it took 6 seasons to get, he gets cranky about those old injuries.)
There's a right way to win a football game, and a wrong way. Boise State wins the right way, and Houston proved last night that they care more about a single person's accomplishment than showing the country that they are a program worth respecting. I can't wait for Case to leave the university so Houston can go back and flounder in inadequacy like they've done for most of their history.
