I'll be standing and yelling my butt off, as I always do. It's pretty cool to have our first Service Academy on the Blue, and will be cooler when we smear them into the BLUE!!! Cadets are doing something amazing with their work/school/military load, and especially the athletes who have practice and travel on top of all that. I never boo other teams, and I think that people that do are not real fans of any sport. Refs... now they're fun to boo at times.
However, I see this as a football team, a new rival. I respect them as football players. I respect them as future officers. I think that there should be no booing at them at all. period.
I, however, really don't like the fact that there is ZERO COVERAGE on our lost and missing. Our country has lost over 6,000 soldiers in combat since 9/11. It's sad to me that we're asked not to boo a bunch of cadets when instead we should be asked to remember that we're fighting in 2 theaters of war, and too many of our soldiers are coming home in boxes. Those cadets haven't been there yet, and maybe that's why I'm questioning why we're giving them so much reverence.
In discussing this here, and with family (AFA graduate cousin included), I understanding that people are using the AFA football team coming here to offer a big-ol THANK YOU to all military members symbolically. That's awesome, I feel that what our military members do is largely ignored or misunderstood, so when the general public acknowledges what they do as special, that is a good thing. It's like saluting an officer because he's an officer, not because of the individual.
So, Bronco nation. DO NOT BOO the AFA Cadets. Stand and celebrate who they are and what they have promised to do! It is special and should not be ignored.
I apologize if my comments have offended. I appreciate this venue that I can come and celebrate my love for Bronco Nation.
