So now that the BCS rankings are finally out, I wanted to take a look at them and attempt to decipher these rankings (for the top 10 anyway) and how they occurred.  Clearly, I will be referencing the pure wisdom that exists throughout the polling process and the infallibility of all of the computer rankings.  In other words, this is not to be taken too seriously.  On to the logic!

1. Team: LSU Tigers (7-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Tigers are one of two undefeated teams in the SEC, which is pretty much the same thing as being an undefeated team in the NFL (as I understand it).  They're big, they're fast, and they beat Kentucky, an SEC powerhouse.  When it came time to decide who should be #1, LSU or Alabama, coin-flipping commenced.

2. Team: Alabama Crimson Tide (7-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Crimson Tide are one of two undefeated teams in the SEC, which is pretty much the same thing as being an undefeated team in the NFL (as I understand it).  They're big, they're fast, and they beat Vanderbilt, an SEC powerhouse.

Reason they aren't ranked higher: They lost the aforementioned coin toss.

3. Team: Oklahoma Sooners (6-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Sooners are a traditional power and haven't lost a game.  They destroyed Texas, who isn't very good (sorry Brian Harsin), but is a traditional power.

Reason they aren't ranked higher: Traditional power?  Check.  SEC Team?  Nope.  #3 it is!

4. Team: Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Cowboys are undefeated and have an extremely high powered offense.  They beat Texas A&M, who was supposed to be really good this year. 

Reason they aren't ranked higher: They're not Oklahoma.

5. Team: Boise State Broncos (6-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: Although the Broncos have dominated everyone they play and have the best quarterback in the nation, their #5 ranking is probably a clerical error on someone's part.

Reason they aren't ranked higher: I mean, c'mon...they're Boise State.  Did you even read the reason for why they're ranked this high?

6. Team: Wisconsin Badgers (6-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Badgers are undefeated and are the best team in the Big Ten, which used to be a good football conference.

Reason they aren't ranked higher: The Big Ten is no longer a good football conference (also, see "clerical error" referenced above).

7. Team: Clemson Tigers (7-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Tigers are undefeated and have solid victories over Auburn, Florida State, and Virginia Tech.

Reason they aren't ranked higher: Preemptive move for when they drop their game against N.C. State.

8. Team: Stanford Cardinal (6-0)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Cardinal are undefeated and have Andrew Luck playing for them.

Reason they aren't ranked higher: If Andrew Luck were to get injured, Stanford would be playing at about the same level as Washington State.  Kids this smart can't really be that good at football.

9. Team: Arkansas Razorbacks (5-1)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Razorbacks have only one loss thus far and that was to Alabama.  They outrank all other one loss teams because they are from the SEC, which is pretty much the same thing as being a one loss team in the NFL (as I understand it).  They're big, they're fast, and they beat Auburn, an SEC powerhouse (near losses to Utah State not withstanding).

Reason they aren't ranked higher: Punishment for allowing New Mexico to score a field goal in their second game of the year.

10. Team: Oregon Ducks (5-1)

Reason for being ranked this high: The Ducks have one loss and played in the NCG last year, which is relevant for some reason.  Most voters are afraid of them.

Reason they aren't ranked higher: Despite the fact that their one loss is against #1 LSU, whereas Arkansas lost to #2 Alabama, Arkansas gets the higher ranking due to being a one loss team in the SEC, which is pretty much the same thing as being a one loss team in the NFL (as I understand it).  Also, no one really likes their uniforms.

Just missed the top 10: Kansas State Wildcats

Reason they aren't ranked higher:  I mean, c'mon!  It's Kansas State!
