The OBNUG Five Minute* Podcast: Talking with Gerald Alexander

The podcast finally runs down ex-Bronco and prolific tweeter Gerald Alexander and he lends his expertise on all things Boise State. We discuss the Fresno State beatdown and just why the Bulldogs are full of epic FAIL against the Broncos. Then our chat turns to the crazy(?) Big East expansion rumors and why or why not it's a good deal for Boise State. Finally, we briefly touch on this weekend's game against Colorado State and Alexander reminisces about Brad Van Pelt. This is the podcast you've been waiting for like the iPhone 5!

I like Gerald. He calls it like he sees it, and it is always real.
I enjoy reading his tweets, too. But I am at a loss to understand where the phrase “he ain’t going through that door” originated. I get what it probably means, but the phrase is used so often it must have a heritage. ???
I also wish he (and I) could see a greater upside to the Big East.

Say you are watching Boise crushing Fresno's run game...
and Fresno keeps hoping to break through BSU’s brick wall of a line to no avail…..a well timed Ryan Mathews ain’t walking through that door Fresno, seems appropriate!
I have seen this expression used in basketball a lot——
The Bulldogs had no answers, so they called timeout. And at that moment, every single person in the stadium knew that Georgia was in over its head. It was instant singularity of Boise State's greatness.

or say the D-line gets to Derek Carr one time and he coughs up the ball
“Sorry Fresno, but David Carr ain’t walkin’ through that door!”

Hey thanks, hummer and TMY. Sort of an "it's not happening" moment?
who started it anyway? a tv/movie guy?

I don't know about that phrase specifically
But these things have a way of just originating on their own sometimes by players. ESPN used to have something to do with it too. Chris Berman comes to mind. Nicknames…phrases…It sort of just becomes an organic kind of lingo.
yeah. you're probably right. evolution of communication

not now, not never...is the way I take it. :)
good example, hummer. Gerald uses it a lot, so much that I got to wondering where on earth all those doors might be located. :)

brick wall without a door, no less. Thanks for the example. :)
I do wonder if some famous tv guy started it…

As Nick linked to, I think this is the orgin...
“Larry Bird is not walking through that door, fans. Kevin McHale is not walking through that door, and Robert Parish is not walking through that door. And if you expect them to walk through that door, they’re going to be gray and old. … And as soon as they realize that those three guys are not coming through the door, the better this town will be for all of us. … All this negativity that’s in this town sucks.”

hey thanks, tmy
I’ve been gone for a week with no internet…so I didn’t want you to think I’d ignored you and your quote. By the time I get used to using/seeing “go through that door”, the phrase will be long dead and gone. ah well.

Drew...
Loved the podcast!! My favorite part was the resurrection of the “little sisters of the poor” comment!! I never get tired of rubbing that in the face of that fool!! Thanks

Nice podcast.
It was great .. I mean, it wasn’t great, but hearing GA exasperate a little talking about the Nevada game .. it’s good to know the alumni care so much.
5* is almost turning to 5^ (as in exponential). Love every minute.

Coherent?
I’ll have to put that on the iTunes tag.
