Boise State football roster breakdown by class
Looking at the Boise State roster from a year-to-year perspective is both intriguing and terrifying. It's intriguing because it is fun to see where the Broncos' new recruits will fit in and how soon they'll play. It's terrifying because GOOD HEAVENS BOISE STATE GRADUATES 27 PLAYERS NEXT YEAR.
Continue reading for the full Bronco football roster broken down by class and eligibility, and share your thoughts on what you see.
Fun fact (or not): Boise State graduates 27 players after the 2011 season, 24 after 2012, and 22 after 2013. Ah, remember the good old days of only graduating five?
And now your Boise State roster, broken down by class and eligibility, with a hat tip to Scout.com for checking my work.

Thoughts
- In my opinion, Boise State has just completed Year One of a two year roster overhaul. When you think about all the names that left as seniors this season and then look at all the names that will leave after 2011, we are looking at an entirely different team from the one we just saw win the Vegas Bowl to the one who will open the 2012 season at Michigan State. Who's left? Jamar Taylor and Joe Kellogg, pretty much.
- Malcolm Johnson's academic issues have left the Broncos very thin at running back after the 2012 season. Nothing Jay Ajayi can't remedy, but still.
- There are some other pretty big holes after 2012 at safety and defensive end. Nothing Jeremy Ioane and Robert Ash can't fill, though.
- Remember how there were no offensive linemen in Boise State's recruiting class last year? Well, you don't really realize that until you split the roster out by class. Thankfully, the Broncos have lots of depth and experience along the O-line.

Boise State has another 3-star RB tripping here this weekend.
Brandon Wright from Palo Verde appears to be quite high on the Broncos. Has also fielded offers from a handful of Pac-12 programs. I can’t have many more schollies left…maybe one or two more at the most. Wright may be being looked at at CB as a backup to McClure, Maston, etc.
Did McClure commit anywhere yet?
I hadn’t seen any info one way or the other on him. I still feel like he is leaning towards UCLA, but you never know. He would look great playing on The Blue.
http://broncochase.blogspot.com/
Not yet
I posted a fanshot earlier this week about McClure. Coach Pete is visiting his home this week to hopefully close the deal. He turned his UCLA visit from official to unofficial so he could take an official visit to Michigan. He had a previous relationship with Hoke at SDSU and sounded pretty serious about the Aztecs before Hoke left.
Fingers crossed
I’m certainly hoping there’s a chance! Pete has a way in doing these things. I used to work at the Ram Brewery in Boise and he brought newbies in there all the time. He knows what he’s doing.
McClure
I tweeted Bryan Fischer of CBSSports.com (covers cfb and recruiting) about McClure yesterday. He said he thinks we still have a shot but believes McClure will end up at Cal…
Guess we’ll see.

I already made it very clear if Wright doesn’t commit, he is no longer welcome in my home.

Oh my gosh, I just spit all over the laptop screen laughing at this one.
Freaking hysterical. Another big ole rec. I’m going to officially stop watching the NFL if I have to watch Scam Newton next year. (Don’t hold me to it – I’m fickle and emotional today).

Linebackers
Why do we have soo many linebackers? If I’m not mistaken we typically only have 2 on the field at a time?
Also, looking through the names of these players (that I don’t know off the top of my head) makes me nervous!!! I believe the 2011 season is going to give us a good glimpse of the future of the program… Whether that’s re-loading or re-building will be determined.

I think we have so many LBs because of walk-ons
That, and they’re ideal for special teams.

I agree
After I posted those were the only two things I could think of. Interesting no less..

Light on the RBs and FBs
Looks like we could use a few more kids to run the ball. Perhaps they should let Dillion Lukehart play running back. He did score 51 touchdowns in his HS career. Can we get another 6 years of eligibility for Jarvis Hodge? I loved watching him run in mop up duty! Perhaps they could teach one of the linemen to become the Fullback/Road Grader. I know our latest crop of QBs can run so maybe we are going to become an Option team or something.
Now I see why we are recruiting so many D-linemen. Looks like our AK years (After Kellen) are going to be interesting.
We could take one of the LBs and convert to FB; shouldnt be a prob. RBs are a concern.
Harper will get back year; Ajayi looks to be the (bw). Coach Pete likes his RBs sweaty, so maybe does not want stable. Matt the K is still promising in IMO, but promises are not cupcakes.

As crazy as it sounds,
I would not be surprised to see the Broncos pick a a JuCo transfer for either wide receiver or running back in the next year or so. As Kevan said, the academic issues for Malcolm Johnson left us shorthanded at running back after next season. Also, depending on how much production the coaches get from Kirby, Matt Miller, Burroughs, etc, a kid from a junior college might be in order. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Johnson
I remember reading an early article about his academic ineligibility and it’s generally impossible to come back from that. Any word on the status of this?
I think he's done
There has been nothing official from Coach Pete about him, but I think his time at Boise State is over. You know how Pete is about letting the public in to his inner workings and player violation statuses. Johnson will pop up at a junior college somewhere, tear it up for two years, and then re-enter the recruiting madness. Maybe Auburn will pay handsomely for him.

Looks that way zelf. I watched Johnson is 2 scrimmages; had his (bw) handed to him, upside down on a platter.
tvmunson
It's nice to know
that Coach Pete won’t compromise his ethics to pick up a great player, regardless of his academics. From what I could tell, Johnson was a beast, but if you can’t make the grades, you shouldn’t be able to play. Glad Coach Pete sticks to that.
Yriarte had career ending shoulder injuries. He is not comig back. Pendergast was ACL as I recall; according to reports he was
240 lbs. late last fall. I think the big guys have the most trouble getting back to it. Atkinson is also being written off by those close to the program;Titus-like (bw)-ups w/o Titus-like charm.

Atkinson
I haven’t heard anything regarding Bacon but perhaps he isn’t getting things straightened out?
Now I’m intrigued – will see if I can get any info on the situation..
Anybody else heard anything regarding Atkinson’s return to the team?

Aint' claiming "written in stone" on this, but his 1st (bw) was beyond the mind of modern man to comprehend style (ref "Shameless"-last night on SHO)
Not a lot of rythmn room after that. Did you catch Coach’s tone when discussing him? Like a guy who’s about to castrate you and asks “how do you like your rolling balls?”
tvmunson
Got tossed out of class...
when he was bw-ing around. The drink he brought into class with him that day was laced with booze. Pretty friggin dumb for a guy who got into a bw-potful of trouble for drinking and driving.

When I read this I closed the office door and started doing my 60 year old white guy disco "dancing".
Unfortunatley I was spotted and am now on a lithium IV drip. They’re letting me email for now and the told me if I’m good I’ll get a cookie and maybe a pencil.

I hear it’s hard to get your ‘grove on’ in that thing ;)

this white jacket does NOT look near as cool as Travolta’s a la “Saturday Night Fever” despite what they tell me.

Nevada? I have no idea what you are talking about.
I remember nothing. ;)

"Vegas"? I recall a tv show in the late 70s by that name. Actor died within the past couple years.
There’s an act there involving white lions and tigers as I recall. It seems to me there have been allegations that gambling is involved there. Didnt some numb-nutted Mormon politician come from there a few years ago?

I thought Yriarte was ACLs
Maybe I’m wrong. He’s listed as a junior on the BSU roster, so that’s why I left him. I was thinking Pendergast might get a medical redshirt for last year if he didn’t play, but then I couldn’t remember if he actually didn’t play.
I’ve heard nothing RE: Atkinson. We’ll know more (officially, at least) in about a month-and-a-half when spring ball heats up.

Canadian Bacon has rejoined the team… 9 game suspension was enough for whatever he did. Hopefully he makes a Titus Young like jump in maturity.

Asiata and Pomee
Any info on Paulay Asiata or Junior Pomee? Asiata listed on Scout.com as low interest but I know Petersen was in the islands recently. Wondering if any contact with him. Also, Scout showing TE recruit Junior Pomee as a prospect today and hasn’t been on the board. Would love to see a couple of these 4 stars come aboard.
That is a lot of Grads
But looking back after the 06-07 year we had I think 22 grads. They said then we were done. Going back more after Ryan and Bart left the haters always came out saying we where done.
I am sure the coaches would like to even things out a little more but sometimes “it is what it is” The coaches will get the best out of who we have. I can not wait of Signing day. We still have 2 years to build up RB a little. Does Doug Martin have a younger brother????

it starts every time there is a perceived paradigm shift involving the senior class. Its college football.
And if its said every time, hey, sometimes it’s right. But focus on who remains i e Coach Pete and staff. ALL of whom are seasoned Broncos, either havign stayed or returned. We pried ourselves on walk-ons but gloss by what that means. It means soemone EVERYONE overlooked came here and contributed, even starred. Percy, Sheo, "Swyck come to mind immediately. Now consieder the 2 stars, like Clady. Now consider that we are recruiting HIGHER THAN EVER and have a bevy of highly seasoned backups, many of whom who have a large resume of “money” time. Bacon was not recruited highly: I had a mangasm when it was announced he’d returned.

I refuse to speak of the following graduations:
Kellen Moore
Doug Martin
Billy Winn
Chase Baker
George Iloka
Shea McClellin
Nate Potter
Thomas Byrd
And then on a personal level, Jerrell and Jarrell.
Feel free to carry on the conversation about everyone else. I’m busy hyper-ventilating.

Yes there will be more than ample room for young players to have a BIG impact. In fact it’s a must! ButI’m not worried cause I know coach Chris will put it together.
