I grew up playing flag football on our huge front lawn in the 50s and 60s, so it has always been part of my life. Dad took us to St. Mary's college in the Bay Area to watch the 49rs scrimmage. We stood on the sideline mixed in with the players. I remember watching Hugh MacElhaney run, R.C. Owens leap (alley oop!) and Y.A. Tittle throw. As we walked off the field toward the parking lot Dad would engage Y.S. Tittle in conversation.
My hope is that Kellen Moore could be part of the new 49rs, but that's impossible to predict at this point. He has such presence on the field. Of course, I'm reminded of Joe Montana. Kellen might even have more vertical throwing ability than ol' Joe and certainly has the calm and vision to match him; not to mention the strength of character. The big, athletic types don't always prove out to be the key to winning. Kellen leads because he knows where he's going and how to get there when everybody else isn't all that sure.
If that scenario doesn't happen, I could see him transition immediately into quarterbacks coach at Boise State. That probably would be a key in continuing the excellent quarterback performance we've become accustomed to in the last three years.
