How about them Hokie fans?

What was your experience with them?

Mine was about 50-50.

Some were very nice and giving us props on a job well done and giving us luck for the rest of the season.

Then you you had the ones dumping beer on top of everyone, and telling us to watch ourselves as we walked out to our car. Curious as to the experience anyone else had walking out of the stadium.

Go Orange, Go Big Blue!

Most of them were pretty cool. Except for that one red neck S.O.B. two rows back.

My buddy and I were completely surrounded. Not another blue shirt within 50 feet. After we scored that last touchdown, we watched the last VT drive from the stairway balcony. It’s a good thing we did. I heard a lot of terrible sportsmanship via sore loser Hokie fans. (Kickin over trashcans, using BOTH “F” bombs towards Idaho as a state, Boise, and the rest of Bronco Nation.
This got me thinking. WWCPD? (What would Coach Pete do?) So I tried to shake one of their hands and say “good game” and this guy looked like he wanted to murder me…. Coach Petersen is one heck of a human being.
  Anyway, 50/50 is about right.

i heard that too.

a few coworkers went and one guy said it broke down a lot like above.

older crowd was pretty good about it.

younger crowd, not so much.

(they both said the same about the trash cans too.)

oh well. you get the jerks wherever you go.

100% of the Hokies were great to me.

We walked around for hours and were offered beers and food at several of their tailgates. They had nothing but good things to say about our fans, Kellen, and Pete & Co. Hokie fans were, by far, the best fans I have ever encountered at an away game. They were very gracious and some of the nicest people i have ever met. I would love to go to a game in Blacksburg someday. Everybody Boise fan I spoke with had the same great experience as we did.

Obviously you're not a golfer...

Agreed

Good experience. There are “those guys” everywhere but I actually didnt run into any myself. Treated with a lot of respect and hope they feel the same way. I did get comments about how well we travel. Way to show up Broncos.

About 95-5 split for my group....

Pre-game around DC it was 100% the best fan base ever. Around game time and at the stadium lots of Boise sucks and booing as we passed but that is pretty good natured and perfectly fine by me. After the game it was okay, I was elbowed by a Va Tech guy as I was walking out of the stadium and almost got into a fist fight on the Metro (would have been my 1st in like 10-12 years!) the fight was kaboshed by other Tech fans who were embarassed about their drunk friend and swore that 95% of Tech fans were gracious in victory or defeat.

One interesting note is that a lot of the thanks for coming and good lucks pre-game were with an air of invincibilty, like they were saying, “how cute you came to see your little team lose to us.” When you say you think it will be a great game but deep down think you are going to dominate I think the aftermath might bring out the worst in some fans.

Overall great fans and had a great time! I would 100% go to both games of a home and home series! Someone make that happen, pronto!

good experiences for me

obviously before the game all my conversations were friendly and all the fans had lots of respect for our team and spoke quite highly of Kellen Moore and how nervous they were because of our offense. (I tried to warn them that our running game and defense was a little underappreciated.) We had 3 young jersey wearing Hokie fans sitting in front of us at the stadium and they were very complimentary and during the game we talked back and forth. During the game they said “no matter how this turns out you guys are good and we will be pulling for you the rest of the season.” After the game we shook hands and told each other good luck; then a rainbow appeared and an angel got its wings.

It was quiet leaving the stadium- you could feel how crushed the Hokies were emotionally. We had one young female fan flip us off- but that just made me chuckle. They have a great fan base and they are passionate and reasonable for the most part; but you can always find a knucklehead in every team’s corner.

Ah, Perry the platypus, as usual your timing is uncanny. And by uncanny, of course I mean... completely canny!

Split.

The frat guy with his six friends that sprayed beer all over me and my wife as we walked to the stadium holds a lot of weight in the negative category though.

We didn't leave DC

until late Tue so we had time for lunch and to walk around. We ate at Old Ebbit Grill and had three or four people congratulate us on the walk over and almost all of the wait staff that saw our Bronco gear said they were pulling for us.

We had no problems around the stadium.

More pregame hate

I walked through the entire parking lot searching for the Obnug tailgate and never found it, but throughout the process I felt that most of the negativity came before the game. F-bombs and other slurs were flung quite frequently. One guy even called us that BW that Greg McMackin called ND last year and then hid in his truck.

During the game there were a lot of nice fans. The guy next to us claimed he had no affiliation with either team and his girlfriend passed out drunk (literally… had to be taken to the car) before two minutes of the game had even elapsed.

Metro was too crowded for anything to happen. Overall it was a great experience although I did see some drunk Boise State fans acting rather childish towards VT fans after the game too.
