I'd love to host an OBNUG tailgate party every game this season. However, to do so is a pricey proposition. I already joined the Wrangler club ($925), which allows me the opportunity (which I have not yet capitalized on) to purchase a parking pass (which costs an additional $400-$500) --- and therefore hold a Tailgate Party in the Stadium parking lot every game. (The Wrangler membership is the only membership level that allows one to buy a parking pass for tailgating.)
All of this money adds up quick! While the Wrangler membership also provides seating benefits (which you - again - have to pay more money for), the seating benefits are not that big a deal for me. Having sat virtually everywhere in Bronco Stadium through the years - and never thinking I had a bad seat - if I do not end up tailgating, I may junk the membership altogether and just buy endzone tix for $250 a pop, saving me a load of money (I'd save $1600). For me, the primary benefit of a Wrangler membership is the ability to buy a parking pass so I can hold a Tailgate Party. Having a tailgate party for OBNUGers would be a great way for OBNUGers to get together every game, meet each other, and just have fun.
If we pooled our resources, we could make it a good party. We could get the usual:
- Grilled Hamburgers / Hots
- Barbecued Chicken
- Baked Beans
- Potato Salad / Mac Salad
- Footballs / frisbees
- Television (if we had a generator)
Apart from sodas, it might have to be BYOB for alcoholic beverages. However, I could supply a cooler with ice.
And that's just some ideas... depending on what everyone wanted, we could have it catered from a Barbecue place. Or we could even do our own barbecue, etc.
There are a number of things I'm not aware of, such as:
- Number of people the tailgate area can comfortably support
- Time you can begin tailgating
Everyone's knowledge and ideas are welcome. Join me after the jump for more...
At the end of the day, a tailgate party would cost money. It would be cost-prohibitive for me to host a tailgate party alone. However, sharing the cost would make it realistic. Having commitments for season-long attendance at each game would probably be necessary... I'd be scared of having big attendance one week, and almost none the next. We'd probably hand out wristbands or stamp hands to ensure those who paid got their food, etc. We'd have to decide if we wanted - as a rule - to share our food with others or not, etc.
We'd have to cover the cost of the parking spot, plus about 2/3 the cost of the Wrangler membership, which will total close to $1100 (I'll cover the other 1/3 of the Wrangler membership since I would get the seating priority benefit). At 6 home games, that's $183 per game, and that does not include food. If food is $10-25 per person (depending on the type of food we bring), then the cost for just the tailgate space, plus $10 to $25 for food & misc, the total cost to cover - per game / per person - would be:
- If 5 people attended = $46 - $62
- If 10 people attended = $28 - $43
- If 15 people attended = $22 - $37
- If 20 people attended = $19 - $34
Obviously, the more people that attend, the lower the per person price. I'm thinking 10-15 people would make it affordable and yet not too big. Safely, I'm thinking $25-$40 per person would be about the right estimate.
If you would seriously consider joining an OBNUG tailgate party, please answer the poll and then answer the following questions:
- Are you a season ticket holder?
- Would you be willing to pay for the tailgate party for every home game - or just certain games?
- Would you want us to supply food - or would you want to bring it yourself?
- What is the most you would you pay - per person per game - for a tailgate party if food & soda are provided for you?
- What is the most you would you pay - per person per game - for a tailgate party if food & soda are not provided for you?
- How many people would you bring to each tailgate party?
Thanks! Time is of the essence... please respond to both the questions and the poll by Monday if you can.
