So this will in no way attempt to match Kevan's recap of the Street and Smith/Sporting News preview magazine, but at least has some of the player rankings from Steele's annual magazine.
For Individual Units:
Quarterbacks: 6th
Running Backs: 26th
Receivers: 28th
Oline: 17th
Dline: 21st
Linebackers: 9th (includes nickel back)
Defensive Backs: 17th
Special Teams: 2nd
For Individual Players:
Offense
Kellen Moore: 12th(!) overall QB, 1st Team WAC, 6th on Heisman Watch List
Jeremy Avery: 38th overall RB, 1st Team WAC
DJ Harper: 3rd Team WAC
Austin Pettis: 9th overall WR (2nd best senior), 4th Team All-American, 1st Team WAC
Titus Young: 8th overall Kick Returner, 1st Team WAC (WR), 1st Team WAC (KR)
Kyle Efaw: 3rd Team WAC (TE)
Thomas Byrd: 42nd overall Center, 3rd Team WAC
Nate Potter: 19th overall Guard, 1st Team WAC
Will Lawrence: 3rd Team WAC (Guard)
Garrett Pendergast: 4th Team WAC (Tackle) (Pendergast and Leno are the starting tackles according to Steele)
Defense:
Ryan Winterswyk: 14th overall DE, 1st Team WAC
Shea McClellin: 4th Team WAC (DE)
Billy Winn: 37th overall DT, 1st Team WAC
Chase Baker: 2nd Team WAC (DT)
Winston Venable: 51st overall OLB (which is where Steele puts nickel backs, I guess), 2nd Team WAC (LB)
Aaron Tevis: 3rd Team WAC (LB)
Daron Mackey: 3rd Team WAC (LB)
Derrell Acrey: 4th Team WAC (LB)
Brandyn Thompson: 19th overall CB, 1st Team WAC
George Iloka: 34th overall FS, 4th Team WAC
Jeron Johnson, 7th overall SS, 2nd Team WAC
Special Teams:
Kyle Brotzman: 1st Team WAC Punter, 2nd Team WAC Kicker
Chris Potter: 4th Team WAC Punt Returner.
Team Rankings:
1st in WAC, 6th in preseason top-40, 7th in overall power ranking. Bowl Projection: Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (formerly Emerald Bowl) vs. Stanford.
Notes: Except for one tackle and the 2nd CB (and the FB, I suppose), every starter is an All-WAC selection of some sort or another (as is a back-up LB, apparently). The 12th overall QB ranking for Moore is puzzling, although I think the individual player rankings put a heavy emphasis on NFL draft-worthiness, so I suppose that might explain Moore's relatively low ranking.
