Boise State's cheapest season tickets are most expensive among non-BCS

A Rivals report detailed the cheapest season tickets for all of Division I-A, and the Broncos came out looking like Randolph and Mortimer from Trading Places. How much more expensive are the Broncos than other non-BCS schools? How do BSU tickets fare among similar teams in the area? Find out after the jump, and share your ticket thoughts in the comments.

South end zone general admission will cost you dearly

Think you're getting gouged at the box office? Turns out, you are. A Rivals.com report looked at the cost of the cheapest season tickets among all of Division I-A football, and the Broncos turn out to be not all that cheap. Gene Bleymaier's pool boy does not pay for himself!

Among all non-BCS schools, Boise State is the most expensive at $201 per season ticket package. The next closest is Wyoming at $182 per. More than $80 separates the Broncos at No. 1 from a trio of schools at No. 10. And I won't even tell you how little season tickets would set you back at Western Kentucky. No, seriously, you will want to become a Western Kentucky fan. Ah, who am I kidding? No, you won't. They're $30.

Are Bronco fans underfunding the entire athletic budget?

The question was posed earlier this year by reader ElPepeGrande, and its relevance takes on new meaning in light of these numbers. Plus, where there's smoke, there's fire, unless it's dry ice, but really who has dry ice ever, so it must totally be fire. In other words, correlation does not equal causation, so tread lightly.

No doubt Bronco fans feel that Boise State turns you upside down and shakes you out for loose change at the box office. But are the Broncos any worse than other area teams?

To find out, I put on my best Googling hat and crunched some numbers on Boise State contemporaries. A hat tip to the NCAA records pdf, university ticket sites (linked below), and myself for a story I wrote on attendance in February. The results:

Note: Individual game prices for certain seats are unavailable for most schools at this time, and they typically vary on a game-to-game basis anyway. All listed ticket prices below are season ticket prices.

Conclusions: Boise State tickets are pretty expensive, whatever Oregon doesn't get in ticket sales it finds in the pockets of Phil Knight's silk pajamas, Oregon State Beaver fans would probably commiserate with Broncos fans pretty well, and no one really cares about Nevada football.

Could you afford season tickets this year?

Bless their hearts, Boise State did not significantly raise season ticket prices for 2010. Because we're in the largest recession known to man, perhaps?

Still, I know many Bronco fans who would love to see every Bronco game on the schedule but simply cannot because of a lack of fun money. Are you one of them? Share your thoughts in the comments about whether or not you splurged on season tickets this year.
