Virginia Tech linebacker Barquell Rivers to miss five-to-six months with torn quad tendon
Tech linebacker Barquell Rivers suffered a torn tendon in his left quadriceps muscle Wednesday during winter max weightlifting testing, according to a release from Tech’s athletic department.

Rivers, a 6-foot-0, 237-pound rising junior from Wadesboro, N.C. who started all 13 games last season for Tech, underwent surgery Thursday. He’s expected to miss five-to-six months, including all of spring practice. He’s questionable to be ready in August for the start of fall practice, but he’s expected to make a full recovery.

"Knowing Barquell Rivers, with his toughness and raw strength, we are confident he will have a successful rehab over the summer and will be back to help us in the 2010 season," Tech trainer Mike Goforth said in the release.

Rivers finished last season with 96 tackles, which was second on the team and represents the highest returning tackle total on Tech’s defense. With Rivers on the sideline for the spring, rising sophomore Bruce Taylor may get the bulk of the first team work at Rivers’ inside linebacker spot.

rising junior?

I assume they mean Rivers will be a junior during the 2010 – 2011 school year. This kid is the most experienced and productive player returning to their defense, which depletes an already-depleted unit even more. He may be back in time for the Labor Day game, but if so, will certainly not be playing at 100% effectiveness. Getting these guys for the 1st game is looking better and better.

i think boise wins this game 31 -17

but on the east coast football blogs they never seem to forget about that georgia game. that is why this game is so important. just beat v.t. and the east coast monkey is off your back.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. I was building a house, I don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. Bang. "Unforgiven" I drink your milkshake. I drink it up! "There Will BE Blood"

agreed!

You have a very good point. The Georgia game has no relevance whatsoever to the current Bronco program , but you’d think they played the game yesterday, in reading many of the blogs you refer to. I also predict a convincing win for the Broncos in this game, which if so will vault them into the national championship discussion very early in the season.

since your probably going to be ranked #4 right off the bat and v.t. will be around 6th or 7th

a convincing win should move you up to maybe 2nd or third. another scenario i see playing out is their is no dominant team in the sec or big 12 this coming year. i could see every good team in both those conferences with at least 2 losses. when you beat v.t. and if you stay healthy your team will run the table. there is no doubt in my mind that this will happen. just beat v.t. and stay healty. you protected kellen moore very well last year and i expect the same this coming season since you have the entire starting offensive line back. good luck.
