Happy 94th birthday, Lyle Smith!

A 156-26-6 record, five undefeated seasons, 51 shutouts and a national championship. He was alright, I guess.

Very cool picture

Boise State has been a powerhouse for decades. It’s just that nobody knew that till a couple years ago.

Happy birthday Lyle, may you live for another 94 years!

Talked to him in the rec a couple of times before this year’s fiesta bowl and he kept saying he wouldn’t be able to make it. I was surprised and pleased to see him at the pep rally a day or two before the game.

Happy Birthday Lyle!

BSU don't need smoke and mirrors to get the job done, they got orange pants.

Finally-someone older than I on OBNUG!

Lyle you’re pure class! As Crazy Legs says, here’s hoping for another 94!

THAT IS MY GRANDPA HOCHSTRASSER

HEY DREW GREAT POST. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A HOLD OF MORE PHOTOS OF THE 1948 TEAM TO SHOW MY KIDS AND FAMILY AND EXTEND OUR BRONCO HERITAGE THROUGH THE GENERATIONS.

Boise State library archives would be the place to go.

I can get you a high-rez print of this one if you’d like.

is it possible to go to the library and search and get copies there?

Yeah, it's possible.

They’ve got a load of them. Call ahead and see if they will allow you to check through them.

Yes That is My Family from boise high school

William or Bill Hochstrassrr is my grandpa. Did he teach you in english or was he your coach? I know he was th A.D. for many years and also coached some baseball there.

Bill was my homeroom teacher and all around guru.

Bill didn’t like me at first; I was from California with long hair and white bell bottoms. But we became friends and he’d always give me hall passes adn we’d talk fishing and hunting.. Your aunt Lisa was in my class. I ran into your grandmother after Bill passed and offfered my condolences and whatever assistance I could. Your family is an important part of Boise and you should be proud.
