Jason Robinson charged with aggravated assault
Suspended Bronco safety accused of breaking a man's jaw in an altercation. Robinson was arrested Monday, posted bond, and now awaits a hearing on March 23. Was this the cause of the suspension?

Oh you just barley beat me to it.
we must have hit submit at the same time. I’ll drop mine.
Catch me on the BroncoNation Podcast!
Guess we know why he was suspended.
Or was the arrest because he was suspended?

"arrest because he was suspended"
intriguing proposition
Dr. William Block: You gotta lose the arm, Joe.
Joe: Lose the arm? What do you mean, lose the arm? My arm?
pull out the fork; Robinson is done!
This thing is going to be plea-bargained, and if so, Robinson will never see the field again. Only scenario in which he would be reinstated: case goes to trial, and Robinson is completely exonerated. With his client facing the prospect of multiple years of incarceration, Robinson’s lawyer is going to plea-bargain this sucker.
Munson: you’re a lawyer; what’s your take on this? Thanks!

Prosecutorial posturing to start
The charge is clearly overdetermined which is what the prosecuors do. While facts are slim, I see no evidence of an instrumentality(knife, beer bottle, tweezers). Fist on fist, with provocation this feels like a misdemeanor. Granted, sounds like guy got hurt. But it is not hard to make this into a “mutual combat” situation. And the “nothing good happens in bars” argument cuts both ways"; a lot of Ada jurors, esp Mormons, take a dim view of bars and bar habituees and feel if you frequent one you get what’s coming. I’m thinking principally of the victim; not a lot of sympathy going in. Plus typically what the victim says is I was doing absolutely nothing and this bad, bad boy(JR black; careful) hit me for no reason. Total bs and everyone knows it. So once we get some discovery done and everyone realizes that JR had some provocation, case goes away with community service. That’s what I see. What Coach P does depends on what those facts are. Unlees JR is psycho there was something that started him up and that will alleviate his legal problem, that and he only used his hands(both big ifs).
This kind of charge is usually associated with weapon
w/o weapon not usually prosecuted as felony. One fact I overlooked; number of punches and where victim was when landed. aAone punch" wonder we’re done. If JR dominated and pummelled him-could be problem.
good explanation
Thanks for taking time to get all of us up to speed regarding the legal circumstances. Very good explanation of Robinson’s legal situation.
This is a barroom fight not the Lindbergh kidnapping. No incarceration on the table with these facts.
although the recent manslaughter on one punch(guy killed his best friend) wont help but this will take a while and memories fade
Conflicting reports
The Idaho Statesman story says the incident occurred on February 12, which was before Coach Pete suspended Robinson.
The KTVB story says the incident occurred late Friday night (four days ago), which was obviously after the suspension.
Are we dealing with two separate incidents here?

KBOI2
KBOI also says February 12 (morning of 13th actually).
It sounds like the PoPo gathered evidence about the incident and issued a warrant out for his arrest, making it one incident.

Good call
I just refreshed the KTVB story and they seem to have dates that match the rest of the news sources. In their defense, accurate dates are sooo overrated.

Yeah, is accuracy THAT big of a deal when it comes to journalism?

Same incident
One of the players told me that it was the same incident.
As always:
ESPN board commentaries are hilarious

You Kidding? The ESPN commentaries are great!
They remind us that one person’s bad decision completely discredits an entire program. The Oregon fans are the greatest, making us realize what idiots we are. And also, if you would paid attention, you would have found out Boise State is going to be steamrolled by Virginia Tech because the loss of the one and only Jason “career backup” Robinson is to much to overcome.
If an ESPN commentator and a Statesman commentator mated …

the world would explode?

you know college football is getting out of hand when the citadel qb has been charged
with quite a few felony’s. oregon’s team could have a whole hour of america’s most wanted.

How did our expectations get like this/
To expect 100 or so young men with the intensity to play Div 1 football to act at all times like senior-class seminarians is nuts. Never did happen, aint happening now and will never happen. They can, do and will make mistakes. My undergrad years are rife with examples of things learned the hard way-many of yours are too. JR’s sounds initally like one of the more justifiable errors, if that. One occassionally encounters the odd malcontent for whom a frank exchange of views is the only proper response of a gentleman. While one must not be too quick to fill the air with upper cuts one must not be too loathe to when the times require it.

Maybe J Rob slapped him with his glove and challenged him to a duel at sunrise?

J Rob even said:
“Bring your guns. I’ve got mine right here,” as he flexed and kissed his bicep.

I agree
but the problem is he apparently broke the guy’s jaw. Dollars to donuts, if the guy had just gotten a black eye, this wouldn’t be happening. Maybe just a short suspension from the team. Most likely no threat of lengthy jail time, if prosecutors even bothered to file charges.

Article in Statesman reads guy went to hospital
and discovered his jaw was broken. Doesnt sound like it was as devastating as it sounds. That said, there is suggestion there were other problems with JR.

Could the guy JR punched be...
A Vandal fan. They are known for drinking heavily and being at bars. After the “victim” found out he was a Bronco, maybe he got upset and/or scared. Then he started to run home to his mommy. Then “accidentally” ran into JR’s fist. Reasonable doubt can go along ways, at least in my mind.
All kidding aside, JR will probably plea bargain and we will never see him on the team again. Sad story, but you have to live with your consequences.
I love the colors Orange and Blue. Go Broncos!!! Go Titans!!! BAD WORD Gators!!!
Other side of this....
Plea bargain out….to disturbing the peace or misdeam. battery…suspended for a few games…see ya in the fall. It sounds like a one punch ordeal and the felony aggr assault was due to the severity.
Not making excuses but I am not sure this is worth a year suspension.

That's the feeling I'm getting, too.
That’s why I wonder if Coach Petersen knows more than any of us do. I’m sure he’s had a one-to-one with J Rob. Maybe something didn’t go right in the meeting.
