I love Kellen
but he can’t hold a flame up to Mallett yet. I watched a few Arkansas games and Mallett has a cannon with impressive accuracy, and he has begun showing some good touch on his passes. Ryan can run, too. Kellen is top-notch, just not quite on Mallett’s level as of the end of last season.

The term for what Mallett does is more “lumber” than “run.” His accuracy is fleeting though, as he’s capable of putting up a 12-32 game at any time.

Mallett does show some promise, but you shouldn’t be given accolades if you’re just a promising athlete. Moore shows promise, but has also already been proven.

Mallett vs. Moore
Relax, guys.
Moore will easily prove himself Heisman worthy by the end of the Labor Day game. Mallet won’t even be in the discussion. Now, if Moore could manage to add 18 pounds of pure muscle and grow 5 inches between now and the end of summer, someone other than Pat Forde will have him as his pre-season Heisman pick.
Mallet won’t even enter the conversation unless the SEC East/West pre-season picks implode, and implode badly.
I'd rather be surfing.

this ranking's a joke
Any comparison between these two QB’s as to who is better should be very obvious. By any yardstick, Moore comes out on top. I agree with the preceding post as to Mallett’s inconsistent accuracy. I watched the Gator/Razorback game last fall, and Mallett more often than not couldn’t hit the ocean while standing on the beach. Take a look at his completion percentage for the 2009 season: 55.8%. This is nearly 10%-tage points below Moore’s (64.3). Their respective QB ratings also show a fairly significant difference: Mallett at 152.5, Moore at 161.7. One of the most important measures of a QB’s true effectiveness is his passing consistency, whether it be for the length of a game or for that of an entire season. Moore is clearly superior in this regard, and should be ranked as the # 1 QB going into the 2010 season.
You're all putting too mush on completion percentage
Mallett by a landslide!
Moore in ’09 reg season: 37 TD / 3 INT
Mallett in ’09 reg season (first year in the SEC): 30 TD / 7 INT
Moore’s comp pct. would drop dramatically in the SEC. If they switched teams, Mallet’s comp pct. would be more than 10% higher than Kellen’s
I know this is a Boise blog but you have to take into account the SEC’s relative strength to the WAC. It’s kind of easy to have a lower completion percentage in Mallett’s case because he actually had a defense on the other side of the ball in more than two games.
Mallett can go 12-32 in a game because he had to play at FLORIDA! This wasn’t Utah State he was facing. Moore isn’t any more proven than Mallett.
Have we scheduled any SEC teams yet for the years to come?

My bad Moore had 39 TD
and I forgot to say Mallett had more yards, but it was close.

SEC comparison.
WAC has pass happy teams and defenses that try to stop them SEC is built with Run and Run option and defenses to stop them. I’m not sure you can do this comparison fairly. By no means am I saying that WAC defenses are better than SEC in passing alone (really, Nevada, really!?), but it’s just not right to say Moore would/could do better or worse vs. the SEC.

SEC?
Those tough SEC pass defenses? The Utah QB lit up the Alabama secondary (considered one of the best in the nation) in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, and he wasn’t even considered more than an average passer. In the NC game this year, a true freshman QB who hadn’t played a lick all season kept Texas in that game deep into the 4th quarter. I wonder how Moore would have fared against the Bama defense. He would have lit them up, and Texas would have won that game. Moore has a better feel for the game, sees and dissects defenses better, and is a winner. Speaking of the Gator/Razorback game of 2009, it wasn’t the Gator defense that was causing Mallett completion problems. In most cases he had adequate time to throw, but was simply inaccurate with most of those throws. Put Moore in any conference; he would have a higher completion percentage than Mallett, and also play better down the stretch. Better yet, let Moore and Mallett compete for the same spot on either the Razorback or Bronco teams; Moore would win that battle. He’s forgotten more football than Mallett will ever learn. Please refer back to this post after the VA Tech/BSU game of September 2010; Moore will turn that Top 10 defense every which way but loose.
Why do you only mention BCS games to diss on SEC defenses
when they are rusty from the 30+ days off? So Utah tore up Alabama, would any WAC team have held Utah under 31? No. BCS games are crapshoots. Defining a team by how they play in a BCS game is the same as defining a team by how they play in Week 1. The BCS games are a glorified Week 1.
Just because the WAC has defenses built to stop the pass does not mean the defensive players in the WAC are better pass defenders than those in the SEC. That is laughable. I understand bias but good lord if you see WAC secondaries on a level close to SEC ones that is just ignorance and blindness. The SEC pumps out more NFL defenders than any other conference on a regular basis. Does the WAC pump out more NFL DBs than the SEC? No.
Mallett put up slightly less impressive numbers than Moore last year, while Mallett had to play against a bunch of future pros throughout the season. Just because the WAC has defenses built to stop the pass does not mean they are better at stopping the pass because they are not. Mallett will be a better pro than Moore, too. I hope Moore slays VTech, but I want to see how he would hold up in a mentally taxing schedule like SEC QB’s have to deal with.

Yes a wac team can hold Utah below 31 points. IN fact it was the WAC team with the worst season record.
Gregory is here for the right reasons
Boise State has a unique culture. It stresses developing the young man over developing the athlete. Learning the importance of family and of work-life balance is part of becoming a positive member of society. It feels good knowing we have a coaching staff with such good values, which can be passed on to our young Broncos.
