2010 PLAYER THAT NEEDS SOME CREDIT (in my opinion)...

As I watched live or on TV every Bronco game this year, I noticed a player give 110% every game.  This player is number #66 Thomas Byrd.

Anyone who remembers the past couple seasons since he began snapping the ball knows that there was some issue between Kellen and the center exchange.  It is very obvious that this problem has been corrected.  Credit goes to Thomas and Kellen on this issue.  The effort Thomas and Kellen put into the exchange problems is just one small part of what I saw Thomas do this year.

I have been impressed with Thomas and his on the field professionalism since he started as a RS Freshman in 2008.  This year I paid close attention as Thomas gave 110% on each play.  There are lots of times when he is still blocking his man seconds after the play was over, and multiple times when after a 20 yd run from Avery or Martin that you see Thomas flying into the action following the play. He is 5'11" and plays like he is 6'10".  Thomas Byrd receives my vote for one of the most impressive players of the year 2010.

Think I am crazy?  Pull up some of the games from this year on your DVR and take a look!  The kid is impressive!

Byrd had soem problems, but he is an amazing athlete and tremendous asset.

With him and 2 other starters from the O-line, plus Kellen, Martin & Efaw, we have Moore than the nucleus of our starting offensive formation.

Munson, you don't even need to type "munson'd" when you munson!

just a simple correction. The name says it all! LOL!

T-BYRD!

Had a great season. I was a little bit concerned about him coming into the fall because of the off season issues – I was afraid that maybe he would come in a little pissed off and jaded. Thomas manned up and played big boy football this year. I was so proud of him!

well said

DP. I was worried with the VT crowd noise right off the bat. Thomas made every shotgun snap to Kellen flawlessly. He is short and a bit under-sized, but it doesn’t stop him from being a great center. Thomas had a great year. I only recall two center-qb exchange problems this year, and he had about 12 or so last year, and even more the year before that. Well done Mr. Byrd.

He is extremely smart. And manages the o-line really well.

Pointing out blitzes and shifting. I like smaller centers that can move. Picking up blitzers and pulling.

I nominate Illoka...

He is starting to sniff credit but he deserves a heaping amount! The best open-field and slide off of a block tackler that we have ever had (slight hyperbole)…his coverage and “hard-hitting” have improved greatly as well! Glad to have him coming back for 2011!

+1 for Byrd, also...

Byrd is probably second on the offense in football IQ next to Kellen, and that is exactly what you need from a center. He is a bit undersized but more than makes up with it by his intelligence in directing the O-line and having a great motor
The other player that deserves some credit is the Hout. Byron had a decent season last year but nothing special on the line, but as MIKE he was tremendous, and I don’t think it is coincidence that his injury coincided with Nevada and USU putting up 200+ rushing yards on us. If he’s in the Nevada game, things are different. We give JJ and Venable a lot of praise, and they deserve it because they are anchors, but Byron was at least as important as them. He has tremendous instincts and never is out of position. He fills his lanes and sniffs out the ball really well. Even if he doesn’t get the tackle he is in position to eat up blockers so that JJ and Venable and Iloka can make the tackle. Not the fastest or biggest or most physically gifted player but never gave up on a play and just has an x-factor that makes him better than his physical tools would suggest. In a lot of ways he was the Thomas Byrd of the defense. Just my opinion.
