Senior Day Tribute: #17 Winston Venable

PrintIt's becoming more rare for Boise State to recruit the JC ranks, but Winston Venable was a slam dunk. He was brought in to compete for Ellis Powers' vacated nickel spot on the D and took the reins the minute he stepped on campus—gathering All-WAC honors his first season with the program. I could speak at length about Winston Venable, but instead, after the jump I'll send him off in style with a simple poem.
An ode to Winston Venable
It's not often the Broncos troll the JC
But I'm glad they bucked that trend for thee
You've been an imposing force on D
and I think you caused Ryan Colburn to pee
To the nickel position you've added some style
Making your body a human missile
And we won't see another like you for awhile
Unless there's another Venable brother in Coach Pete's file
So we salute you today Mr. Venable
Your presence made QBs untenable
And kids, heed my words if your amenable
You can be like Winston…just eat your vegetables! (pretend that rhymes)
Oh...hey, remember this?

Absolutely a blast to watch
Love his emotional play. He’s a combo heat-seeking missile (2009 at Fresno) Mack truck (2010 OSU) who can play with soft-hands when needed (2010 Fiesta Bowl – game ending interception).
No, we won’t forgot #17 anytime soon.

You’re amazing. Thanks for choosing Boise – we’ve been so proud to call you ours. Your intensity is unmatchable, the emotion you play with is inspiring, and as long as I live, I don’t think I’ll forget that hit on Ryan Colburn last year.
