Senior Day Tribute: #52 Derrell Acrey
OBNUG is honoring each Boise State senior this week with a favorite memory. Got one to share? Sign up.
My memories of Boise State LB Derrell Acrey can be summed up in one picture:
He brought energy, inspiration, laughter, and passion to the Bronco football team, which is a little different contribution than maybe the team or fans expected but that doesn't make it any less valuable. Thanks for the memories, Derrell Acrey.

Derrell Acrey has been one of the most recognizable Broncos in the community.
It seems like each time we would attend an event, Derrell was there to represent the team. That speaks loads as to the type of person that he is and how highly his coaches think of him. How often do we see college athletes who the coaches are afraid to give free reign to, for fear that they’ll say something detrimental to the organization? Obviously not the case with Acrey. He is personable, affable, likeable and intelligent. He’s articulate and has a wonderful sense of humor. Derrell has a smile that makes you smile right back – the best smile in all of college football if you ask me and he’s always got a hug and the time to talk to you as if you’ve been besties forever. He actually commented on my pink coat before the last home game. Such a nice guy.
My favorite memory of Derrell, hands down, would have to be when I photographed the WAC Swim and Dive Championships… The football team sent some representatives over to compete in a relay race and a belly flop competition. Epic. Derrell took me aside and pulled his workout shorts away from his body to show me what he had planned for the crowd.

Derrell Acrey, I adore you. Thank you so much for all that you’ve given to Bronco Nation and all that you’ve done as the emotional leader of this team. We will certainly miss you around here, but I wish nothing but the best for you. With your leadership qualities and great personality, I know that you have great things laying ahead. Don’t forget that you’ll always be a Bronco.
