12 Reasons the Nevada Game is Good for Boise
- So Long Bandwagon Fans – A whiff on two easy field goals. No more potential national championship. These are the types of events that thin out the fair-weather fans and strengthen the support of true Bronco Nation fans
- Appreciation for Success – Friday’s loss proved just how difficult it is to win a football game. So many things have to go right. And even when they do, it still doesn’t guarantee success. Hopefully Bronco fans will appreciate every win just a little bit more
- Higher Stadium Attendance – It’s true that the MWC is not what we’d hoped it would be. But if the Wolf Pack can beat us, maybe the Falcons, Aztecs, Bulldogs, Rainbow Warriors and Rams can too. Hopefully our loss will put the fear of God into our fans and spur them to attend no matter the foe and no matter the weather. At the very least, you better believe all future Nevada games will be sold out
- Closer as a Community – Support for Kyle has brought us closer together as a community, proving to ourselves that we love our boys no matter the on-field results. I’ve never been prouder to be a Bronco than I am now.
- Genuine Goodbye to our Seniors – There’s no denying that fan support and appreciation on Saturday will be genuine. Our players will know they are appreciated for working hard and doing things the right way
- Coach Pete’s Example – Under great adversity, Coach Pete revealed his true character and taught both Bronco Nation and his young men how to handle life’s hardships with class. Congratulating Coach Ault the right way was just one of the ways Coach Pete led by example.
- Life Lesson #1: Dealing with Loss – All kids need to learn how to deal with loss. Coach Pete said his kids will have to learn how to motivate themselves and work hard this week – even when they don’t feel like it. If learning how to pick yourself up and move on isn’t one of life’s most difficult lessons, I don’t know what is.
- Life Lesson #2: Supporting Your Friends – There is no "I" in team. As we all know, Coach Pete said "no single play can lose a game", and Kellen called Kyle "one of the boys". Learning the importance of supporting one’s friends when they are down is much more important than the result of a football game. The way Bronco Nation handled this event has set the bar high for the similar events in the future
- Hard(er) Work – With no disrespect intended to this year’s team, winning programs often forget just how difficult it is to win; with this loss, next year’s D-Line might be taking just that many more wind sprints at the end of practice. Actually, our whole team might just do that. Heck, even I might do that!
- Better MWC – Nevada now has serious street cred. Having Nevada on our schedule can only boost our future SOS, something that is unfortunately still desperately needed.
- Real Rival – Losing Idaho as a rival was not the end of the world after all. Turns out there is another program within a days’ drive that has battled us close, beaten us when it mattered, and has "nasty and inebriated" written all over them (ref pictures of fans giving Billy Winn the bird). I’m going to start counting down the days until we meet them again. If I’m correct, it currently stands at 304.
- Motivation – Think our Boys will receive the same amount of national respect next year as they received this year? Bet not. Think our Boys will use that as motivation? Bet so.

for truth
MrsDiggity.......NO DOUBT
Idaho skies are Blue and Orange
I will never waste my money gambling in Nevada again. I'm going to Oregon and i BW hate Oregon. Billy Winn wins the NOBEL PEACE Prize 2011 for not knocking the BW out of a BW Nevada fan
great write up Don
Our crowd will be pumped next year, Nevada will bring some fans, our defense will be out to prove something, and Doug will be mad, and Doug will smash. I cant wait to see how the boys handle it next year, although I have a feeling Utah St. will receive some of the hard feelings from last Fridays loss. I have no problems with that.
Thx - I can't wait for the Nevada game 2011
Of course, I also can’t wait for the Utah State game 2010!

Nice work Don....
And truth on all points. Without a doubt, this is going to be a character building experience for these boys. The missed opportunity stings, but in the big picture of things, I know that only good can come of it. It’s been an incredible chance for true fans to rally around this team.
See you guys on Saturday.

Something else I noticed...
Prior to this loss there was a lot of venomous hatred being spewed about the Broncos, their schedule, and the university itself. It seems to have at least died down to a few blow-hards at this point. Envy is a sin, but still caused a lot of hate to be directed towards our program. With the team’s reaction to this loss I think the Broncos re-endeared themselves to the nation. Kellen’s post-game response, Coach Pete’s classiness, etc. These events have shown the nation what kind of program we truly are. Haters gonna hate, but for right now maybe they’ll re-think why they hate us. I’m looking forward to playing under the radar again. Our boys proved they can play at the top, but I enjoy it more when each win is a victory, not an expectation. This team exudes class and so does our fan base. We lost the battle, but the war continues.

How this loss was handled swings a door wide open for next season.
Granting the Brotzman interview to ESPN, the recognition from the national media, how the team has handled themselves, and also how the majority of Bronco Nation handled ourselves… we’re back to being those lovable rascal Broncos again.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Orange Bowl actually picked us. BSU v. tOSU with a couple weeks of hype in front of it would get massive, massive ratings.

Very well said Phlippin
You summariZed everything efficiently and managed to find words for a lot of the things I was feeling. Great post

although we're spoiled with wins....
perspective is always good and, personally, i’m glad this has given me some….BLEED BLUE
Noel.Diggity.....NO DOUBT!
Bronco Nation...where the heavens and our hallowed ground are both BLUE!
Nicely done SNYP
I also kind of feel a little less venom out there for the Broncos and the fans like reflectivity said above. Nothing changes about these boys and the coach. Win or lose, they do it with class.
there is no 'Z' in 'Boise'
there is no 'O' in 'Petersen'

I stopped at #2; had to comment.
As I’ve said, Div I football palyers are rare athletes. Any of ‘me .1.3 million high school ballers; less than 3,000 go on to Div I. it’s hard to win football games. Period.

Nothing is good
Nor Bad until compared to something else.
One must always find the good in every result and the long term good is having Nevada finish this year and next high in the polls to help with possible realignment in 2012.
Add in the lessons learned and this loss was actually a win.
I agree with looking for the silver lining
Every situation has a positive but you need to have the will to find it.
However, I have serious doubts concerning Nevada next year with the amount of personnel they are losing. Who knows, maybe the cupboard is full for them too. We’ll have to wait and see.

Not good
A BCS game or national championship would always always be better. It may be better for some of the individual players on the team for their personal and individual growth, but not better for the program.
On the bright side, I think it will not harm the program, or have any long-term effects. I think BSU is still the favorite to run the MWC next year and get into a BCS bowl.
Best of luck BSU fans. I am secretly hoping you guys get an invite to the Las Vegas bowl, and although you guys would probably rock my Utes, it would still be a lot of fun to play you guys.

i Couldnt not vote yes, not when I know that we could of been….. anyway. Its good to know that the toughest game we have played in years is not VI Tech, Oregon, Ore St, TCU….its underrated underhyped Nevada, similar to where we were in 2007. Grats to the ’Pac again but we are back to where we were after TCU leaves…
good write up, there are things that we can take away from the win, but I have hard time admitting it was ‘good’.
Thing B
Boise State is the best team in the country, no asterisks.

I gotta say it and I CAN say it because Don is now one of my dearest friends…. He is one of the nicest, most genuine people I know.
Remember when we barely knew Spay and Neuter (after the "nasty and inebriated comment by Kustra) and we were all sure that he was a Vandal in sheep’s clothing??? Look how far we’ve come that we can agree on these points now…
This was a great write up my friend and obviously dead on. We’re going to grow from here and we’re going to be a better team and better fans for it.
