Last Friday didn't start how I'd planned. My fiancee and I had high hopes of getting up early, going to Target, and picking up a 40" TV for $300. We got there about 3:45 am, 15 minutes before they opened and were quickly informed that they had handed out tickets for the TVs and they were all sold out. We ended up finding another TV on Amazon, but it wasn't the best start to the day.
We know how Friday night ended. I laid awake in my bed trying to keep my mind off things and get some sleep. It wasn't easy that night. The next morning I stayed away from all games. I couldn't even watch an NFL game on Sunday.
After a Boise State loss, I need to detox for a few days. I need to be reminded that whatever happens, it's not going to affect my day-to-day life. Sure, I knew I was going to have to deal with some grief from friends and coworkers. But other than that, nothing else is going to change in my life because of the outcome.
With that in mind, it made hearing the news about harassment and threats to Kyle Brotzman that much harder to hear. I realize that in the heat of the moment, we all might say things we regret. But for the few that went so far as to seek out a relative of his or actually take the time to setup a facebook page that's sole purpose was to mock him, shame on you. Your life was not affected. Give him the same respect and help him through this tough time. Everyone's eyes are on Boise State and Bronco Nation and how we all respond.
There are far more important things going on in each of our lives. Football is a fun diversion but it's hardly life and death. Please keep this and things like Stephen Kinsey's fight against cancer in mind during these times. Of course, even the loss is devastating to them.
Anyways, I heard there were some other games played last week. Join me after the jump for those results and this week's games.
UPDATED: I fixed last week's winner, sorry for the confusion.
Week 13 Winner
Were there really any winners last week? Actually, we did have one user pick Nevada. StatueLeft thought the points were too much and picked Nevada to cover. Unfortunately, he didn't have a perfect week.
For Week 13, we had a four way tie, all who were 8-1. All whose sole loss was Boise State. EGNOWIT FIRST_DOWN NERDGLASSES THESHREWDONE
Week 14 Games
I think I'm ready to delve back into this week's games. I guess I'm rooting for Auburn now.
#1 Oregon at Oregon St. (+16.5)
Oregon State got blanked by Stanford last week. That's disturbing.
#2 Auburn at #18 South Carolina (+4.5)
Although, I really think South Carolina could pull off the upset here.
#13 Nebraska at #10 Oklahoma (-3.5)
Bo Pelini is mad. I think he should talk to someone.
#20 Florida St. at #12 Virginia Tech (-4.5)
Pick: Virginia Tech
I actually had someone try to tell me that Nevada was the first ranked team Boise State played all season.
Illinois at Fresno St. (+5.5)
How does Fresno pull off these home and homes?
#14 Nevada at Louisiana Tech (+10.5)
It would be kind of awesome if La Tech pulled the upset so Boise State could pull ahead of Nevada in the WAC.
San Jose St. at Idaho (-13.5)
Will either of these programs be around or in the FBS in 3 years?
UNLV at #25 Hawaii (-34.5)
I hope Hawaii can continue their success in the coming years. The MWC will need it.
Utah St. at #9 Boise St. (-39.5)
Pick: Boise State
Hopefully everyone, including the fans, can shake off last week's loss.
Here are the standings after 13 weeks with 1 week dropped. If you see duplicate entries, let me know and I'll get it fixed.
