When Brotzman's name is announced on Saturday...

I will be cheering.

But why should I actually support the guy who ruined the magical run to Pasadena, or possibly the title game?

Because Kyle Brotzman epitomizes what Boise State football is all about.

Brotz was lightly recruited out of Meridian High School, just miles away from Bronco Stadium. He walked on to the team and earned the starting job as a redshirt freshman. His freshman season he was 66-66 on extra point attempts and 16-18 for field goals. Sophomore year he was 50-50 and 17-26. As a junior Brotz was 63-64 and 18-25. This season he is 51-53 and 14-19. Brotz has been the face of the Broncos' special teams unit for four years.

We love Kyle because he's  inconsistent from the left-hash, and gave us the same uneasy feeling as Zabransky dropping back to pass.

We love Kyle because he's also been a fantastic punter for four seasons, perfecting the "rugby style" and faking out Mark Johnson on numerous playcalls.

We love Kyle because he was an honorable mention Freshman All-American.

We love Kyle because he holds the school record for consecutive extra points made and most field goals in a career.

We love Kyle because he is closing in on the NCAA record for most points in a career, and currently holds the WAC record.

With the recent misses fresh on our minds, perhaps we should go back to 2008 when Kyle made a 50-yard field goal at Nevada, and more importantly, in 2007 against Nevada,  Kyle converted a field goal to tie the game at the end of regulation. He also made a clutch field goal to send the game into quadruple overtime.

And of course, we love Kyle for "The Riddler." During the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, Kyle lobbed a pass on a fake punt in the fourth quarter. This set up a Muscle Hamster touchdown run. Without the clutch performance by Brotz on the national stage, BSU very easily could have lost that game.

We love Kyle because he has been an integral component for the most exciting era in Boise State history, and his legacy should not be determined from one fateful night.

Please, Bronco Nation, join me on Saturday in supporting our home-grown hero on Senior Day. I don't think there is anyone more deserving.
