To any of the young men who may find their way to this short letter,
This was a response I placed in the Fanpost "Are You In". I just really think the world of you guys and hope this heartfelt response can somehow illustrate the depth of feeling the fanbase holds for you.
No wallowing! Kyle, lift your head up, swallow that bitter pill, and move on!
This train has not stopped, it’s still rolling, there are no breaks and we have another game next week.
Boise St. players; we do not improve from water but from fire. You are to learn from your mistakes and press forward. No one is ever defined by what they did in times of peace but by what they did in times of war, not how they react when they were on cloud nine but how they respond when they are in the pit of hell!
This is an opportunity to reach a new level as men, not just football players. At the end of the day football is a game but men are the pillars of a community and the guardians of life. We defend the defenseless, we hold the line, we fill the gap, and we damn sure don’t cry when we get knocked down…we get back up and ask our enemies if that’s the best they got!
This is not a loss but an opportunity boys! This is what winners are made of. How you respond, right here right now, will dictate to a degree who you become 5 years from now. It is a building block, a cornerstone, a chance to become something more than you were 5 minutes ago. Seize it boys, you have to take it. Study the film, own the mistakes, take responsibility, and grow stronger from it. You should thank God Almighty for this opportunity that has been laid before you. To bring victory out of certain death because who you are as a man is more important than who you are as an athlete. Seize the opportunity boys, nothing worth having ever came easy.
We love you guys, all of you. We are not ashamed of any one of you. Everyone has a bad day, not everyone lives to tell about it. Fight for it, get back up and fight for it.
It’s time to go back to work now.
