Uhhhhhh ...
Nevada 34, Boise State 31. Discuss.
Recap and analysis after the jump.
Note: After each Boise State football game, I recap and analyze the action the same way. Only tonight's will be a little more brief.
Note: Thanks to all who commented and emailed about the pic of Brotzman right after the game. I replaced it with a game photo once the wire service made some available, and apologies for not choosing a better placeholder before.
Note: That's enough notes for now.
The Top Five plays of the game
- Kyle Brotzman missing a 26-yard field goal at the end of regulation. BAD WORDS.
- Kyle Brotzman missing a 29-yard field goal in the first overtime. BAD WORDS.
- Kellen Moore to Titus Young for 53 yards with two seconds left. OK, this one was really cool.
- Nevada's Anthony Martinez making a 34-yard field goal in the first overtime to win it. Technically a Top Play, since it won the game and all.
- Doug Martin's 79-yard TD catch and run. Ah, a simpler time. Before I knew despair.
It was over when ...
Literally, it was over with Martinez's field goal.
Recap
Nevada won. I don't care to relive how.
Statistics
Passing
Kellen Moore: 20-for-31, 348 yards, 2 TDs
Colin Kaepernick: 19-for-25, 259 yards, TD, INT
Rushing
Doug Martin: 24 carries, 152 yards, 2 TDs
Vai Taua: 32 carries, 131 yards, TD
Receiving
Austin Pettis: 5 catches, 65 yards
Titus Young: 6 catches, 129 yards, TD
Rishard Matthews: 10 catches, 172 yards, TD
Knee-jerk reactions
I love you, Kyle Brotzman, but I don't have to like you right now ... This game will forever be remembered in Bronco lore for Brotzman's misses, but credit Nevada for playing a very, very good second half of football ... How much did Brotzman's first kick miss by? Inches? Millimeters? ... Sports: Sometimes they suck ...
Sleep on this one for awhile, Bronco fans ... Much more to come on Brotzman, BCS, losing, etc. once I can see straight again ... Hopefully tomorrow ...

very entertainig game
too bad, broncos. but that was a fun game to watch.
Just stopping by but maybe I don’t understand the rules but how was that FG in OT not a make? It clearly passed inside when I watched it in slowmo like 50 times
In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
it was definitely a miss
you have two officials standing underneath the posts. it was a miss.
I am not a Bosie fan so I do not have a rooting intrest but I strongly disagree
In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
neither do i
unfortunately the tv i watched it on didn’t have dvr so i can’t replay it
but i’m pretty sure it curved wide left of the post. i’ve seen missed kicks like that a lot before. had a pretty good hook on it i think.
If you see the replay take a close look, I am not up on the college rules but I could not believe they atleast didn’t look at it.
In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
idk if they can reveiw it
but i trust the judgment of two officials under there.

Ohio State's President Called
He said “Thank you Brotzmann, Now go play real teams and one game wont decide a season.”
This is funny!!
Terpfan2011 I love your comment since you play in the ACC and don’t play real teams. Your most likely ACC Champ will be a 10-2 VT that we beat who will get to play in a BCS game. If they lose it will be a what, 8-3 FSU. I wish we played in the ACC. Then we would be guaranteed a BCS game. Or the Big East. Either one we would win the conference.
Our Season is Anything But Over
Am I having thought regarding Kyle Brotzman and Brandon Thompson right now that if carried through to fruition would land me in a federal penitentiary? Yes? Do I need to go hire a shrink and a good cardiologist? Yes? But in all seriousness, this is where we seperate the men from the boys in terms of who the true fans are. We all knew Boise had to lose sooner or later, we just didn’t think it would be tonight. This loss needs to strengthen our resolve as fans and it needs to teach our team a lesson. I’m sure the team will learn, but will the fans?

both of them said no, so sorry. urge Nevada to get longer field goal posts, but even then it may have just bounced off anyway if not miss completely.
like its been said, the WAC had no reason to have Boise lose at all. sure they are leaving, but so is Nevada so…..

You have way too much faith in college football officials
I’m on the sidelines regularly OU games and they get influenced so easily by the crowd and the coaches that it’s laughable. Do you know why clowns like Pelini and Stoops constantly berate the officials? ’Cause it works. If you are ever on the sideline of a game, watch how the coaches from teams are yelling and asking for holding or some kind of foul after every snap.
Same thing with the crowd. Crowd has an impact on these guys.

tough loss guys
I was rooting for Nevada but only for selfish reasons (want to finally see 2 Pac-10 BCS teams again). You guys have a great team and it’s really unfortunate to not see you all in a BCS game. Hope you guys win your bowl (unless against a Pac team) and keep things going well.

I don't care about Boise
I just happened to catch the game, but they were robbed due to the simplest decision in football. This wasn’t a judgment call on a PI or on a fumble. It was on a simple field goal from 26 yards. I’m an official myself and there is no excuse for missing that call.

Nevada dominated BSU’s d-line in the second half. That’s why BSU lost. There were lots of opportunities to stop them; and several opportunities to score (not including Brotzman).
I agree
Brotzman choked for sure, but our D got shredded in the second half, and our O wasn’t consistent enough to make up for it.
Brotzman deserves blame, but he’ll get more than his fair share. We lost this game as a team.

Well ladies and gentlemen
I don’t understand it either. Moore was obviously very good tonight. Martin was also very good. We played a pretty god offensive game, and our defense was good for the first half.
We can blame the refs (which I honestly partially do), and we can crucify Brotzman, but this was bound to happen sooner or later. Our defense was gassed in the 4th quarter, and Nevada took advantage. They were the better team tonight. It’s the beauty of the game.
Get some sleep, relax, recuperate, and get back at it next week. We’ve still got a helluva team, and only 2 games left to enjoy them.

Anyone who defends college football officiating is an idiot
Do you know why its terrible and NFL officiating isn’t? Its rather simple. NFL officials are full-time pros and not part-time/contract employees like in college. The training that college football officials get is laughable. They go to spring games and watch some tape and that’s about it. NFL guys are immersed 100% and that’s why they miss on average about 5 calls in 120 snaps. Don’t think that there is some conspiracy. Simply, college football officials are not properly trained to deal with the level play now. They are glorified high school football officials.
The replay system is an abomination. They review meaningless plays and that are obvious from the naked eye, but don’t review close ones. Every review is 50-50 because no one has clue as to what they will decide.

Actually, NFL refs are required by the league to have another job
They’re not “full-time”. Ed Hochuli, for instance, works as a lawyer when he’s not refereeing.

Kudos to you man, well said and done. I agree on all fronts. Boise has arrived in many ways and will have great teams in the future, and this season is far from over. Brotzman was a killar in the Fiesta Bowl last year and money almost everytime since. So now he is human. The Broncos just didn’t play to their ability tonight. The defense looked fatigued and were not used to playing in the fourth with adversity and that is the real price we pay for playing in the WAC.

Amen Tami.
This is a GREAT Bronco team and anyone who is here to say otherwise should be ASHAMED of themselves. Man up. Games shouldn’t come down to a kicker. There’s blame to go around if any fair weather fans so choose to play that game. If you do choose that, you should go hang out at the Statesman.
As for me, I will be there on Saturday to thank not only our seniors, but this team, for the incredible run that they gave us this year. There is so much to be proud of.

Agreed Crissie...
I realize most of the posts here are either opposing fans or not regulars here at OBNUG, but it shows a little about how spoiled and ignorant a lot of Boise State fans are. There are a lot more reasons than the two missed field goals that the Broncos come up short. We will find out how true fair-weather our fans are and there will be plenty of open space on the bandwagon – but if it is open space from the likes of many of the posters above, I bid them farewell.
"...east and west is the problem, north and south the solution."
Exactly Crissie :)
It’s not just one play. If people want to split hairs about that, they can also go back to the turnover that the refs blew dead and took away from Nevada earlier, or any other number of plays. The FG just happened to be at the end, so it gets all the attention.
Some of you might know I’m not a Bronco fan, but you guys do have a great team, and I’d trade my team’s football ability for yours in a heartbeat.
Brotzman is feeling terrible right now, and you can bet his teammates are trying to pick him up. Fans should have a little empathy.
Your a real fan who thinks about what Kyle's feeling right now.
He’s now know to all Boise State Fans and the state of Idaho. I only hope Kyle keep things in perspective that it’s just another game and move on.
Thanks for the support scotty...

Win as a team, lose as a team. Brotz will be talked about a lot after this one, but there are lots of other storylines that should get play, too. Good comment, Crissie (amidst a sea of “other” comments).

this one hurts… Nevada whipped our butts for 2 and half quarters, but we were still there..Kellen and Titus pull off another amazing play in Boise St. history, and it’s all given back. No bcs, no rose bowl, no money to help expansion. Unreal choke job.
Now, that was a good play. I did think that the game was over from that catch.
Almost became the NY Giants winning the Super Bowl on one catch.
Boise State produced an immense amount of happiness for me. I do need to thank you guys for that loss.

In 15 years following college football forums this is among the most absurd reactions I’ve seen.
how is this absurd
the kicker had two opportunities for easy kicks that would have won, or at least had a shot, at winning the game. he missed both.

If you want others to see you as a big-time program… you need to start looking at yourself like a big-time program does. As in, not relative to real big-time programs. The officials iced Brotzman in regulation. There was no need to do the dippity doo dah dock, lets put another second on the clock. You could almost see the weight of the moment finally get heavy on young Brotzman while the officials were messing around. OT was all on Brotzman. That was my comment before the kick...
I can understand the review to make sure that Titus caught the ball and to make sure time had not expired. Then the home clock operator took a loooonnngggg time to reset the game clock to :02 and essentially iced Brotzman. Not likely intentional, but after they came to the line of scrimmage following the review and then had to reset again while the clock was being fixed, Brotzman’s demeanor seemed to change.
"...east and west is the problem, north and south the solution."
So what went wrong?
late game brotzman: fail
BT: fail
second half defense: fail
second half offense: decidedly iffy
But, also, I think this might be the first time that we got outcoached. The Nevada team made obvious, good adjustments after halftime, while we didn’t. So that is super sad. Is this really a BSU coaching fail?

Okay
1. It wasnt bad officiating. They didn’t ice our kicker on purpose.
2. It was a miss.
3. Brotz is the greatest kicker in school history, except for the close games, which maybe means he isn’t the best.
4. There’s still Utah St. and some bowl, just not the one we wanted.
5. I remember when I trollef AtQ after the Rose Bowl. No, wait, I didn’t because I’m an adult and have better things to do.
6. Just try to ignore the trolls, obnuggers. Most of them have probably suffered humiliating losses to the Broncos (Ducks, Utes) and this is their revenge. It’s a lame revenge, but their lives are empty and they have nothing better to do.
7. Losses make better fans. We have been spoiled, and have often acted spoiled. Plus, losses make wins more sweet.
8. Lastly, go Broncos

Missed field goals.
First I will admit Boise St. is a VERY good football team. Second I will say, I can’t think of a team I hate more right now than BS. Watching Bronco games is like watching a 12 year old play NCAA football on playstation. They go for it on 4th down WAY more than any other team I have watched. And let me just say I am GLAD it finally bit you in the butt! How can you expect a kicker, who rarely gets a chance to kick, let alone in big situations, to make the most intense field goals anyone would ever have to attempt. Before the first one he looked like he was going to puke! I wouldn’t be surprised if he did once he found out he had to try a second. While everyone acts like your kicker lost the game, why don’t you take a look at your “dominating” defense. Or your 3rd down conversion percentage, or any stat category. You lost in EVERY aspect of that game. More penalty yards, less first downs, less yards. The only thing you did better at was only 2 fumbles. It’s about time you princesses get humbled. I do not know of a more arrogant, disrespectful, and classless fan base than that of potato town. Suck up your loss, and next time…worry about winning your mega-conference before talking National Championship. Nevada won! Best of luck to you in the even stronger Mountain West…wait, I mean Mountain WAC. Keep your fingers crossed that TCU stays in that conference, cause everyone else that was worth while realized without a decent conference there will be nothing more than a conference championship. Later!

are not trolling your site. There are a few idiots everywhere (yes, even BSU has ’em).
Your team did itself proud. This isn’t the end of the world. Most importantly, this long winning streak proved to all but the most dense (Ohio state presidents, for instance) that the system is BROKEN.
Oregon has been screwed before by it. Oregon State has been screwed by it. Boise State has been repeatedly screwed by it. And one loss does not mean that the Broncos (or the Ducks, were they too lose tonight) aren’t good enough to win a playoff.
My heart goes out to Brotz the kicker. I hope you all embrace that guy. It is a shitty way to lose.
Good luck in the coming years. I still hope to hell to see my Ducks kick the Bronco’s asses in a playoff game!

The thing that gets on my nerves...
We have tried to earn the nation’s respect ever since at least the Oklahoma game. After that game, we had the respect of the nation. I’m not exactly sure what happened after that, but the year after that, Hawaii was dominant in the WAC, so since then, all respect we had was lost. The past few years, we have been working our asses off to regain the respect of the nation. Last year, we could’ve had it, but the BCS wouldn’t let us. They just haaaaaaaaave to go and match us up with TCU for the second year in a row. They just would not let us gain the respect of the nation by beating a “real team.” So we go out, and do what we do best, and that was kick the crap out of TCU. Everyone and their mother, at that point and a while before, was all on our case about “oh you guys play high school teams, blah blah blah” so we go and join what everyone considered a “better conference” in which is the Mountain West. Within days of that announcement, two of the most relevant schools in that conference, Utah and BYU, pack their bags, and leave, leaving us with TCU and a bunch of no-names. Then Fresno State and Nevada decide to join, beginning the formations of the WAC 2.0. Then we have the big game against Virginia Tech. After that game, it looks all but certain that we will have the respect that we somehow lost will be back at least by season’s end. Then James Madison beats VT. Respect = Gone. So after that game, we go out, and again, we do what we do best, and that is kick the living crap out of everyone that gets in our path. We still got those “high school team” comments though, but that looked like it’s going to go away in a few weeks, because we would very likely be at least in The Granddaddy of Them All, The Rose Bowl, if not the BCS National Championship Game. What could be better? Then we go through what we did today, and all respect we ever had, was gone with one kick.
I’m not mad that we lost, I’m mad that everything we have worked for in the past few years is gone in just a blink of an eye. I’m mad that people give us crap about who we play, when we can’t help it. We try to play better teams, but nobody wants us.
All I can say is that we better kick the living crap out of Utah State next week, and I said it before, and I’ll say it again. Boise- 204, Utah State- 0
Go Broncos.
really?
you kicked the crap out of TCU? We must have watched a different game, go check your stats. Oh and TCU was dissapointed too. One of the ugliest games Ive watched…I speak of Both teams…
Respect?
Your precious little story almost made me tear up. If you wanna talk about disrespect, take a look back at the 2008 Utah team.
yep...Boise was also undefeated at the end of the season that year...and the year that Utah got to play the mighty Pitt team.

oh and how many schools did BSU play from BCS conferences those years?
You cannot argue strength of schedule, lets be honest
Because Utah's was sooo good those years...get over the SOS argument...that's the BCS mentality.
Playoffs would end the “SOS” for good.

I hate the BCS just as much as the next guy.
I was actually disappointed to watch Utah join the PAC-10. Just not a fan of the “if you can’t beat them, join them.” mentality
That's what I don't get...Utah was beating them...and was essentially already in a sure-fire AQ conf.
Overall…and for the prestige of the university, I get the move…but grrrr.

Yeah, I was stoked BSU got the invite...
unfortunately the TV deal, even with BSU coming in is what had Utah and BYU running
I truly feel bad for you guys, next season, not too many people will be able to watch a game like tonight’s due to the wonderful MTN network. As much as I have grown to hate BSU, i dont wish that network on anyone
One of the ugliest games you've watched? It was the epitome of what the SEC claims to be week in and week out.

I LOVE defense....
which is non existent in the WAC by the way. What was more impressive? The BSU defense that held a sub par TCU offense. Or a TCU defense that made the almighty BSU offense look, well not that good.
Both defenses were ranked in the top 12 last year...and the game played out just like that.
So, because there was little offense against 2 top 12 defenses, the teams were overrated?
As one Oregon Duck fan so graciously opined, Ice Water shall henceforth be known as Kellen Juice.

not sure i said they were overrated...
was actually commenting on the fact that one of your bronco yahoos, claimed BSU kicked the crap out of TCU….and that wasn’t the game I watched.
To be fair
Those rankings that had them as top 12 defenses did not account for the strength of the teams they faced. Ratings that did account for the strength of the teams faced had Boise far lower, around 40-50 range (TCU still scored very well, top 20 across all such rankings that I saw).

UGLIEST GAME!!!!
Both teams did not look like they even wanted to be there, which was unfortunate. Just looked like 2 teams from non AQ conferences playing in the joe shmo bowl. Very disappointing!!!
They didn't want to be there...just like Oklahoma, Pitt, and Alabama didn't want to be in their BCS games when they played non-aq teams.
doesn’t it work both ways?

Um yes and no...? can I answer like that????
First off PItt did want to be there, they were like 8-5, they just shouldn’t have been there. And even so said how bad they would beat a weak Utah team. Oklahoma…had a lot of fight in them…they had the entire nation behind them to prove that the little guys don’t belong, and the whole Utah/Pitt thing was a fluke. Alabama….I’m on the fence with that one too…But Mr. Saban himself said he knew Utah was a good football team and they would not overlook them. The respect is there…whoever is complaining about no respect is an idiot!!!! Losing to a REALLY good Nevada team AT Nevada…not far from respectable!
If anyone made the little guys have to start over it was Hawaii...
Losing to Georgia wasn’t enough….? They decided to just lay an egg
Seriously, this is sad...
I hope all these people go away fast, because this thread is pathetic. Actually, this is what I’ve been dreading most about losing. The backlash from all the haters (and bandwagoners) who have been waiting sooooo long to say it.
We are a great team. A three point loss, on the road, to a ranked opponent doesn’t change that. I’ll be there next Saturday to say thank you to all these seniors who have lost a whopping 5 games their entire careers. And any true BSU fan will do the same.
I’ll admit that for tonight that my feelings are an even split between feeling sorry for Brotz and wanting to strangle him…but that’s just emotion speaking. Brotz didn’t lose this game. The whole team lost with the third quarter we played. Does losing stink? Yeah. Would I have rather put off the loss until after our national championship win? Sure. But it had to come sooner or later, and honestly, I think I’ll actually be able to enjoy the rest of the football season, now that I’m not worried about everything…
Our fanbase is so new, we need to learn how to lose still. But if it had to happen, be thankful it was a close game against a ranked opponent. We may not always be that lucky. But I’ll be there win, lose, or blowout loss, cheering my team on! Go Broncos!

But I don’t understand how a senior kicker should be nervous enough to miss a line drive 19 yarder…Regardless, next year they’ll be good again, there’s no doubt there. I posted a line of smack earlier and I have to apologize. I suppose it was a reaction to posts I read (on a different forum) after the BSU and especially the Rose Bowl loss last season. We’ve spent 40 years to get to this point ourselves, meaning within arms reach of the title game, enduring years of “what a cute little program” cracks of our own, so in retrospect it was awfully shortsighted to turn around and dish the same garbage.
So good luck going forward. 1 loss on the road to a ranked team is nothing to sneeze at in a long season, however heartbreaking the consequences.

Hmm.
Do they really think they’re going to earn a big TV deal? Although with the P12 members now having an extra open date due to the new 8-game conference schedule, I could see them signing up for a couple of games against Pac members. Utah is a given of course, but they also have a fairly big alumni- and fan-base along the entire west coast.

Not a BYU fan
But they have the audience. They already have a solid 50-60% of the current Mountain West Conference Market. That market will go with them, to the detriment of the rest of the MWC teams. If BYU was smart, they may have been able to pull a Texas-Like deal, where they got 5+ million/year while every other MWC (Sans Utah, who also has a sizable share) had to stomach 500,000/year.
Instead, they decided to drop the baggage and just go solo.
I think they made the best move for them, and even though their stupid BYU-TV will be able to pick up the games that ESPN doesn’t get, they have enough of an audience to survive with their current deal.
TCU will bolt within a couple years
Will still be a better league, but . . .

True enough.
Have you ever watched the series “Seconds from Disaster?” It shows how several small events ultimately lead to an jetliner crash or a bridge failure, etc. But everyone only remembers the final event itself. In this case, the seemingly little things like a dropped pass here, a missed defensive play there, and scoring the final touchdown a bit too quickly conspired to put your kicker in the position where your entire season rested on his shoulders. I didn’t need to be. We’ve all been there. We were 2 missed tackles away from the NCG in 2002. Our only loss was to Stanford and those missed plays came back to haunt us in a BCS system that would have sent us to the game if it were the same as it is now.

That’s like going from the cerebral palsy league to the down syndrome association.
This game was undeniable proof Boise State doesn’t belong in the BCS conversation. You barely beat Virginia Tech… you beat an Oregon State team that will barely make a bowl game and Nevada BEAT you. The kicker didn’t blow it for you… Nevada BEAT you.
You’ve been running up the score on nobodies the entire season, yet when you play a team with even a little talent… you either win by pure chance… or you lose. Proof that you can’t hack it against the top 25.
Until BS plays in a real conference against a real schedule… you will always be that fat kid in high school that people think is funny, but don’t actually take seriously.
The day an MWC team is in the National Championship is the day Boise and the rest of the know-nothing state of Idaho realizes that blue turf is the dumbest thing in college or professional sports.

I really don't think Petersen is going to blame Brotzman
I think he would be classy and encouraging in the locker room and possibly even blame his coaching to deflect some of the blame off a kid who is already killing himself inside. I think the more important issue perhaps may be related to the starters being pulled in the second half for most games. I understand the logic behind not running up the score and getting your future players some looks, but our D looked gassed playing all 4 quarters. What happened to that dominant 3-and-out start?
I spent most of the night tossing and replaying moments in my head. Too bad I’m exhausted today because it’s my wife’s 38th birthday (I love you sweetie…zzzzzzz).
I don’t think many BSU haters would like to admit their mediocre (insert conference here) team would likely be beaten by a very strong Nevada team at home, too. The perception that any league “deserves” an automatic bowl bid over another shows so much bigotry, I’m disgusted. It’s not as if the non-AQ conferences are playing women’s lacrosse. They all play the same sport IN THE SAME DIVISION. There’s a separate division (FCS) for a reason! Why shouldn’t every conference be AQ? Because it’s about keeping money and power in the hands of the rich and powerful. Anyone who denies this probably really hates little sisters of the poor in real life. (There’s a reason they’re homeless, right?) I’m still tired and rambling, but sweatshirt. Tallahassee Frankenstein.
More importantly, Moore didn't.
He could have thrown him under a bus but instead dove under the bus with him. That’s a leader and a teammate. Kellen can play for me any time.
Oregon St. can relate to this, having lost at LSU due to kicker problems. That kid turned out to be the best in the nation. That doesn’t help right now, of course.
Boise just encountered one thing that confronts every good program at every level. When you get good enough to be in big games, there is always a chance to lose big games. There are about 115 teams that would trade a lot to have had a chance to take the risk of losing a game that big.

Tough loss to a good team
Even though I struggle to not find joy in your loss because of how dumb some BSU fans have been about trying to vaunt themselves at the expense of Utah and TCU, including bashing on Utah’s 2008 season as if BSU’s was somehow just as impressive, I hate to see a game go down like that.
Your QB is awesome. Your defense is really really good, and I think your coach is about the classiest person in college football period. And while I still hate so many of your fans, I honestly think that BSU’s football team this year is one of only 2 teams who would give Oregon a challenge in the NCG. I think it should be a coin toss between BSU, TCU, and Oregon. I don’t even think Auburn will give Oregon a decent fight this year.
It’s still been a great season though, so chins up, you’re still gonna finish 12-1 in the top 10, and you will be in a better conference next year. Run the table, and you will have a little more respect, but only from a fraction more of the people.
There will always be haters. Just try not to be them yourselves.
Congrats Pack
Nevada won the game; but I’m not going to quit loving my Broncos and hating the system. Sometimes the ball just bounces the wrong way; like it did with the Nevada punt fumble and two fumbles that landed in Nevada arms. The Boise Defense did not get Nevada off the field; and I saw balls dropped by Boise that are normally caught. Anyone that comes in here and says Boise is a fraud is not giving proper respect to what the Pack did and what they are— they’re good. (Dontay Mooch is a player). Any Pack fan, Duck troll or VT troll be real and admit that the Pack played well but was still very lucky to get that win. I will cheer for my Broncos and for TCU the rest of the season; maybe we can get Stanford in the Fight Hunger Bowl. Go Broncos; congrats Pack-we will share our WAC title, go Frogs blow up the BCS; keep your head up Brotzman-you are a Bronco and we are pulling for you.

with a few exceptions where a few 'fans' took the loss out on kyle
most of the objectionable posts in this string are from classless trolls who come to gloat and demean a very good football team and their adoring fanbase. it’s a sad day in boise, but we have another game next week and the broncos will go to a bowl game. in my mind 12 and 1 is a pretty darned good season. i’m looking forward to kellen’s senior year and the perspective that this extremely devastating loss will give him. i can’t help but think that every returning player on the team will take the lessons learned last night in reno and become stronger and more resilient from the experience.
it’s time to turn attention to the seniors’ last regular season game and the bowl game after that. the bronco’s future is bright and starting with georgia next year they’ll have another opportunity to show what a great team they really are. go broncos!

Balling? I agree, I think Boise State fans should take a day off and play some basketball. Good call, Nevada fan!

CBS is projecting us for the Humanitarian Bowl.

Sorry, that’s crap. How can anyone justify an unranked Big East team getting into a BCS bowl game over Boise?

Because the Big East (as awful as they currently are) qualified for an auto-bid according to the established standards.
I think it sucks, but it’s what exists right now. Next year, when the Broncos are in the Mountain West, they may have a chance at a better bowl. But, for now, Humanitarian Bowl is the tie-in for the WAC.

Victim of Powder Puff Victories
Blame the kicker … blame the refs … whatever! BSU, IMO, lost because of their own past success.
BSU has blown out team after team for so long that when they were faced with a street fight in the fourth quarter, the starters had not been there in a very long time. They simply ran out of gas. It was evident in the third quarter, and Nevada coach Chris Ault took advantage of the fact. He kept the BSU defense on the field for so long that by crunch time, they had nothing left. The Broncos defense was exhausted, and they were beat because UNR has had to scrap for almost every win this year. The Wolf Pack was used to fighting for their lives in the fourth quarter; BSU was not.
What this tells me is that if BSU were in a BCS conference, getting hammered day-in and day-out by top tier competition, they would either step up their conditioning program throughout the season, or they would struggle a whole lot more than they have. Most quality games are won in the fourth quarter.
You raise some possibly valid arguments, but I think it’s more psychological than physical. Boise’s starters have played in games that were dogfights (Vtech, TCU last year, etc.) but after running roughshod for week after week it’s weird to see an opponent get off the canvas and keep punching. The same thing happened to Alabama on Friday- Auburn didn’t quit and Alabama was dumbfounded.
I think Boise will become a much stronger team mentally next year for this loss, but I don’t think that it’s anything physical that needs addressing.
