The Mikrino Poll: Raise your hand if you like dirty Nevada towns with casinos, brothels, and panhandlers.
Chris Ault raises his hand, but no one can see him, because he's only three feet tall.

Ault, before a college football contest, catches a glimpse of the field. *Not pictured: the two foot stepladder he's standing on.
Yes it's already time for another tasty Mikrino Poll. Since we've already begun with a hefty shot across the bow, what say we delve right into this one and start the name-calling. Weenies. I don't like The University of Nevada,Reno. More to the point, I don't like Reno the town. I lived in Northern Nevada for a decade, I visited Reno alot. I watched Bronco games at Mackay Stadium. When they re-vamped the stadium in the early 90's, My high school got their old bleachers. I almost attended UNR instead of Boise State. Several of my high school friends did go there. I'm ashamed of them now and we don't speak. Okay, not really, but it worked for the end of this paragraph.
Let's be a little truthful for a bit, Nevada is actually pretty good. The possibility of this upcoming game being a shoot-out is probably pretty good. Although we all heard the same thing about Hawaii, and Hawaii beat this Wolf Pack team. Here's my thing, if you have the Broncos games DVR'd, like I do, go back and watch the 1st quarter of every game since the opener. The Bronco Defense has been going crazy all season. In every game they have come out in the very first possession and sent a message to the opponent: You're gonna get rag-dolled all game long, best wishes, Bronco Defense. And then they do it, and it's impressive. Nevada is good offensively, if the Broncos can shut them down they way they have the last three games against other good offensive teams, it will be a good sign. I'm already giddy with excitement. Billy Winn is amazing on the interior line. He just pushes 300 pound men down and walks over them. Then, he gets to full speed in a half step and eats the quarterback like he's a Krispy Kreme.

Nathan Enderle has seen death, and it wears a Frohawk.
Then there's this guy;

Scampernick, runs like Peter Parker from those old Spider-Man cartoons. Except less cool and completely overrated.
Allow me to re-post a graph Kevan showed us all back in May, when Scampernick was on the ballot for Public Enemy No.1. I believe Kevan was spot on in his analysis.

Colin Kaepernick has been overblown since he came on the scene in 2007. You might recall him making his second college start in Bronco Stadium back then. A game in which he was an unknown quantity, where he proceeded to quantify himself to the tune of 14 carries for 177 yards (12.64 ypc) and 2 TDs. He also threw for 243 yards and 3 scores. Four overtimes later the Broncos snuck out with a 69-67 win, and we all thank Tim Brady immensely for making the shoestring tackle that ended the game. Scampernick was born. And Graham Watson ran with it for the next couple seasons, assembling a hype-machine for him that led to him getting way too much pub for being an above average runningback with a poor completion percentage. He has won consistently, I'll give him that, no wait, he's lost consistently too. I'm confused. But anybody can do that in the WAC, am I right SEC fans? What does he have to show for all the hype? WAC offensive player of the year. WAC Champs? Nope. Bowl wins? Nada. Undefeated seasons? Zero. Let me get this straight, They've went 6-7(2007), 7-6(2008), and 8-5(2009) With Scampernick at QB. Exactly how good is he? Hmmm?
Here's why Nevada will lose this week's game. Defense. Broncos has it, Wolf Packs don't.
Scoring Defense: 38th (21.7ppg)
Rushing Defense: 21st (124.64ypg)
Passing Defense: 103rd (249.9ypg 6.9 per attempt)
Total Defense: 66th (374.5ypg)
The Scoring Defense rank might be legit, but it's not top-caliber. And the only top rated offense they faced, they lost to 27-21. Let's have a look;

I know what you're thinking. How did they get twenty thousand people to come watch them beat San Jose State? Have you ever been in Reno on a Saturday night? Yeah well I have, and I'm not ready to talk about it yet. Seriously though, the marquis victory Nevada is clinging to is the beat down of Cal in mid-September. I watched that game, it was impressive. But Cal is the Fresno State of the PAC10. They can look like behemoths one week/quarter/year and then take a massive dump the very next week/quarter/year. Outside of that win and the loss to Hawaii, really not much to write home about. Unless your Graham Watson, then you've got at least 15-20 blogposts about Scampernick you can rattle off from memory.
Nevada is a good team, the BCS Computers say so. But Boise State is an excellent team that ranks in the top 10 in almost every statistical category people track. And probably a few they don't. One thing about the WAC, they suck against Boise State in football, and it's been that way for awhile. Nevada especially has looked inept against the Broncos for the last few years. I've never seen so many people hang their hat on a 4OT loss, but whatever works I guess. When bascially nobody in the conference is in the same realm as Boise State you do that kind of stuff; "Man the Broncos only beat us by 2 points in 4OT's, we sure hung in there, made 'em work." Huh? You did lose though?
I'll be out this week again so you'll once again have free reign to make fun of me in my absence. Or hate me, whatevs. Know this, you'll be in the snow in Idaho, I'll be in the 80 degree sunshine of Daytona Beach, watching my oldest son kick butt and take names in the National Youth Football Championships. Plus I'll have my Thanksgiving dinner at Hooters, haters gonna hate.

Nobody should be surprised when I say Boise State will dominate this week. Pjohn56 had a great post on another thread where he basically said that this Bronco team looked determined to march through anyone to prove the naysayers wrong. The chip on their shoulders is massive right now, and they be pissed. Rightfully so, I might add. Stewart Mandel tweeted that Boise State has the best D-Line in the nation, hands down. That's right SEC homers, you lose. Pat Hill said in all his games he's never been thoroughly dominated the way they were the other night. He also said he'd take Boise State over any team in the country right now, and when it comes right down to it, people are scared to play the Broncos. His mouth might be writing checks his mustache can't cash, but it sounded good anyway. Be proud Bronco Nation. And if there's anytime to spend a night in Reno, it's this Friday.
And somebody do me a favor and go get kicked off this Mizzou Blog this week. They're asking for it.
Onto the poll.
This content was not created by OBNUG and therefore may not meet our standards. On the contrary, it probably exceeds them.

As another Nevada HS grad…most of my friends went to UNR also and now they “care” about football

At least in body. But I dunno about the size of their hearts or the chip on their shoulder. We have guns, too.
Go Broncos! Beat Nevada!
And that's another Bronco... FIRST DOWN!!
Rec'd for Brady OT sack ref! Nearly unrec'd for mentioning Watson! She's an "occassion of sin"

ah Timmy
Glad that Brady gets his own little spot in Bronco lore. The Bradys were old family friends; Tim and my bro are the same age and played Optimist fb together. Last I heard Tim married Dan Hawkins’ daughter and they had at least one kid.

"Scampernick" "flamingo"- love it.

so i was listening to caves and prater this afternoon
and a caller, “Larry”, said that Nevada always seems to play BSU tough:
- 2007: Nevada suffers 2 point loss
- 2008: Nevada suffers 7 point loss
- 2009: Nevada suffers 11 point loss
What’s funny is Slappenduck (substitution…) and Nevada have gotten progressively worse. So expect 2010 to be bad.
Really bad.
12 years in a row. 22-17-1 overall record.

Nice work yet again Mikrino.
Cyber-ostrich (or is it flamingo?) is about to be in a world of pain that he has never experienced before. His supposed improved passing still sucks. Broncos by at least 21.

you sir, are a douchebag...
and your 6th grade writing ability shows the difference between the quality of education @ Nevada vs. one at Boise JC.
BTW: ‘marquis’ should be spelled ‘marquee’, unless you meant to refer to the ‘marquis matchup’ as some sort of contest between “nobleman of hereditary rank in various European monarchies and some of their colonies.”
Keep it real, mr BSJC student. Real dumb, that is.
I think his use of "marquis" was correct.
He was probably referring to the fact that the Mercury Marquis is similar to Nevada Wolf Pack football. They keep trying to update it and give it a makeover, but deep down it is still a piece of junk and it always wishes it was a Ford Bronco.
Obviously you're not a golfer...

Am I mistaken?
Or is a University of Nevada-Casino attempting to claim that matriculation in said institution is somehow superior to BSU? Well, I will admit your rigorous course curricula in gambling, prostitution, and rueful hasty nuptials is light years ahead of the undergrad offerings of most state schools.
Come back here late Fri. night and we’ll mercilessly mock console you.
Yes, mikrino is...however, if you're really trying to compare schools, then we should stop this conversation
I left Nevada after high school because of both universities lack of quality education and failed attempts to bring their high school kids into college.
While I will agree that UNR is better than UNLV, UNR and Boise State are very similar in academics (at least in the sciences). I would go further to say that UNR possibly exceeds BSU in that regard because they have a “medical school” which rivals Ross University in the Bahamas.
That being said, I really think that people choose Bahamas over a B/W-town like Reno.
Basically, my point is, most kids go to UNR for a “college experience,” not for academics, whereas many people go to Boise State because they need a degree, but can’t have the “college experience” because most are too old (hence being a commuter school with old JC roots which have pretty much disappeared). Both have their serious students (I can say this because I was there at BSU to study and be away from home, and I have a few of my UNR friends in serious majors like biomedical engineering and biochemistry), and both have their expertise of programs.
But because of your arrogance, and your response (which is VERY 6th grader-like), I must once again bring up the whole academic subject crap.
Sincerely,
A PhD student in Physical Chemistry, something that you probably have never heard of and looking at it will blow your mind.
PS, please try to never bring up academics on a SPORTS blog again…
And if you are a Vandal in disguise, tell the rest of your thugs cronies that we don’t miss you

about being called a sister with no cash on hand.
BSU don't need smoke and mirrors to get the job done, they got orange pants.
thanks for improving my mood Belexes...I just get super irked about the whole "academics" thing
"Speak softly and wear a loud shirt" - Kimo's Rules
Dear PhD student in Physical Chemistry,
Yes, I went to Nevada for a college ‘experience’ and besides, who doesn’t go to college for the ‘college experience’? Oh that’s right, BSU students, because they have to get to work delivering pizzas most nights…
BTW I studied “physical chemistry” all the time in high school. It was called dropping acid…. “hey man! check out all those atomic, subatomic, and particulate phenomena floating around! They’re blowing my mind!”
Briefly, here is some background on my degree program: “Nevada’s highly-regarded Reynolds School of Journalism school has produced 6 Pulitzer Prize winning graduates. By comparison, Stanford is next in the western U.S. with 4 graduate winners.”

NV_Wolf_Pack, are you sure you aren’t a Vandal in disguise? Reno’s pups aren’t going to be able to hang for long in this game, and BSU’s defense is the reason. You can thank Mr. Venable and Mr. Winn for that.

I vote all of the above

It was truly a game for the ages, and instant classic. You guys have nothing to be ashamed of. It took at least 3 miracles for the Wolf Pack to pull off that upset.
