Re: Boise not finishing.
Perhaps it can be chalked up to an inexperienced group last fall…
In my opinion, it’s the new head coach. If coach Pete has a flaw, it is this. He’s not a ruthless “we’ll finish you off” Dan Hawkins. I think his humility should sidestep in regards to the score. Run it up, no prevent D, maybe it will help you in the polls.
Just my opinion.

I see your point, Loque. I would prefer that college football existed in a universe where running up the score and generally being unsportsmanlike wasn’t necessary to get ahead. I also want to go see the new G.I. Joe movie with Marty Tadman. Point is, neither of those are happening.
With that in mind, I still think it’s necessary to draw the line between completely crushing and humiliating teams and beating teams soundly. Where is that line? Do you slow up with a four-score lead in the fourth quarter? Should starters ever be pulled prior to the fourth? Do you let up when the game feels out of hand? It’s a gray area, to be sure. I lean toward the score differential in the fourth as my favorite way of telling when to let up. I’d be curious to know what you think.

I believe it ends with a coaching decision. And I truly admire Coach Peterson’s intentions, and prefer that he stay true to his integrity. However, it is true that Boise doesn’t ever finish well. And I just can’t seem to place that squarely on the shoulders of the players. Whether that means that we let up in the 3rd/4th Q or that the coaches don’t teach about finishing (I doubt that very much), I’m not sure. But the easiest and quickest solution is to put a little more gap on the board before we get conservative.

Coach Pete is admirable.
I respect him. I love his ability. I do wish he put more distance between the Broncos and the losing team. Not always in his control mind you.
Sometimes it was Jared Zabransky.
Boise State - The best in all the land (The "land" being Idaho, and large parts of California, Oregon, and Nevada.)
I've mentioned this before.
Here ,I believe, and on other message boards. I do think Coach Pete tends to pull up this side of a beatdown. Last year with Oregon was evident of that in my opinion. Former employer and all, not wanting to rub their face in it etc. I did prefer Coach Hawk’s all out, no quit style much more.
I’m a big believer in not letting up. It’s the offense’s job to score. It’s the other teams defense’s job to stop them from scoring. Why would you do their job for them? If you don’t want to be embarassed on the field of play, then stop them, its that simple. I believe Dan Hawkins was quoted;
Ghandi didn’t take a knee, Martin Luther King didn’t take a knee, Thomas Edison didn’t take a knee, and I sure as hell am not taking a knee.
John Heisman didn’t believe in letting up either. If that man doesn’t quit, neither do I.

Here is a link to the opening run by Blount in the Fall scrimmage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktOyVo6WT_E , I think it is a middle schooler trying to tackle him.
I lover Brockel/Wilson poster.
Especially the armageddon clouds in the background.
My boys need one of those for their bedrooms.

I wonder...
Do you think that those are the same clouds in the background of that TCU poster. You know that one that feature the Canvender’s evil, missing since birth, triplet.

Sportsmanship vs. Pre-game Brawls
I don’t know if shaking hands before games is a good idea. Not that Boise State couldn’t handle it, but can you imagine Miami and Florida State getting together before the game? Most of those guys have done time together, but I don’t think that means they will shake hands and wish each other good luck. I think it could create an atmosphere to talk trash and could end in some pre-game drama for a lot of games.
Boi Blue
Maybe
Or maybe they should have a pre-game ritual taken right out of West Side Story.
They could prance around and mock each other. Faux fighting and everything and then exchange bows minutes before kickoff.
Or, I don’t know, maybe just play football. Hey, I think I may be on to something.

I thought we already did this.
It’s called the coin toss. You know, captains (ie. team representatives) and coaches shake hands and converse before every game.
Here’s a scenario: Does Doug Martin hammer the Vandal “I” before or after shaking hands with the opposing team?
In the end, it just doesn’t make sense. Sometimes you have to convince your team that your opponent is the big, bad, meany… and that you must hate them for everything they are… until the clock hits 0:00.
