VANDALS SCRIMMAGE WITH COUGS
The Idaho Vandals took advantage of having a regional rival this summer to help prepare for the upcoming season.
Idaho and Washington State players regularly got together for 7-on-7 passing games either on the Vandals' practice field or in the Cougars' Martin Stadium.
"Our kids took it upon themselves and got it put together," Idaho coach Robb Akey said. "That's a great thing."
The players even held a double-elimination tournament in Pullman, Wash., that also featured teams from Eastern Washington and Central Washington.
"The kids are competing against each other all the time, so it's a little more fun to get after someone else," Akey said. "It makes it more competitive and not as redundant."
Nose guard Jonah Sataraka said Idaho won the tournament.
"They looked good," Sataraka said. "The skill players looked pretty good defensively and offensively."
