BCS payout - Nice, but not that nice

Not only is the BCS doing a disservice to BSU and especially TCU by not letting them have a shot to play against a "worthy" team from the BCS, but they are also short-changing the schools and conferences financially by combining their payout.  The second page of this article explains it fairly well. ( I know, its Bleacher Report, buts its not bad).

No wonder they wanted us to play together. Its not about fairness or matching up undefeated teams at all, as Junker proclaims it to be. If fairness was truly his priority, then Boise St would have been selected last year over Ohio St. But no. Instead, last year was about fan travel and having a 'marquee matchup' . Now all of the sudden since there is two non-BCS teams this year, they label it as fairness. Where was that fairness in years past of letting the higher ranked teams in? Coincidence the sudden change of heart when there is two non-BCS teams knocking at the door? I think not. I really do loathe this hypocritical, contradictory and unjust system. Every year fans are dissatisfied with who the national champion is and who should be playing who. Its time for change. I'm writing Obama.

Anything that involves millions of dollars towards not only toward collegiate athletics, but toward higher education in general, definitely deserves to be looked at by Congress. Thats almost a direct quote from Utah Senator Hatch at last summer's BCS hearings. (By the way, if congress has to have a hearing with your organization, thats when you know something is wrong). If people can utilize millions of dollars and throw it around as unjustly as the BCS has, you can bet it will further contribute to a crippling economy. I don't think people realize the ripple effect the BCS creates financially and socially to the schools, students and local economies it disfavors. This BCS is most definitely an issue that should concern anyone who cares about higher education.

No institution, be it the BCS or anything else, should ever teach that hard work and dedication won't get you anywhere, because it will.  Morally, the BCS is wrong. Financially, the BCS is da' devil, Bobby! (Any organization that  banks millions of dollars off of a college kids hard work, blood, sweat and tears, and then only returns an insignificant fraction of what they made back to the schools and conferences is a greedy, crooked organization and a serious detriment to economics and the general public.

$23.8 million dollars is a nice amount, but not that nice when BSU is going to spend half of what they get on the trip to Arizona alone. Other schools in BCS bowls walk away with $17.5 million to bring back to their conferences, while BSU and TCU ge shafted with $11.9 million to bring to their conference mates. The worst part is that this Fiesta Bowl will make just as much money from ticket sales and whatever else if not more than from previous Fiesta Bowls. Essentially, having two non-AQ's is like having a freebie team play that you don't really have to pay out as much. Like an immigrant worker or something. What a sham.

Thanks for trying to be nice Mr. Junker, and saying you simply wanted a top-rated matchup, when we all know the selection process could have easily put TCU vs. Florida in the Sugar Bowl or even in the title game if you sincerely wanted a fair matchup. I don't know how people can lie to through their teeth like that to a whole nation. Very Hitler-esque as Munson put it.

This whole thing smells like an Anti-trust case and violates the Brown v. Board of Education principle (The 1950's black children wanting to get into public school somewhat symbolizes BSU's issue right now). Separate is not equal and college football should not be a cartel of commissioners who can pick and choose what teams are good at their own discretion. They need to let the teams prove it on the field like every other sport does. When this happens, then finances won't have to be worried about in higher education because teams will take home what they deserve - rather than focusing 90% of the revenue on 50% of the teams.

Here is the pdf document that has all the basic info on this years Fiesta Bowl, including payout. They hype up for BSU pretty good.
