More Expansion Rumors . . .

Will the Big Boys Leave Boise State Out In The cold Yet Again?

Star-divide

Block U (JazzyUte) has posted a good synopsis on Block U regarding the possible expansion of the Big Ten and how that might move other conferences as well (Big 12 and PAC-10) to also expand, bring in teams and markets.

As you guys noted, if the Big ten poaches Missouri, and the Big-12 poaches TCU, the MWC will have a slot, right?

Unless the BCS conferences panic and think about expanding while the expanding is good.  The argument is that the PAC-10 wants ot go to 12 teams, and that means Utah and possibly Colorado to the PAC-10 (those are rumored to be the top choices).

But Colorado might not be the best fit, BYU might be. That would leave the MWC without three of their top four programs (Air Force likely being the most consistently tough after those three).

So the MWC scrambles to cobble together a conference with the WAC and leftovers from their now depleted league.

And BSU would be screwed again, not in the immediate future though since it would take time for all this to shake out.

But, is there anyway around this?  How long before BSU can field competitive teams for males and females across enough sports to be considered by the PAC-10?

The academic program at Boise is excellent, but probably not as deep as Utah and BYU, when will it be broad enough to attract a BCS conference?

This content was not created by OBNUG and therefore may not meet our standards. On the contrary, it probably exceeds them.

In football, too.

Conference championship by wins by association, right?

…right?

Long shot.

But if the MWC loses TCU/BYU/Utah and then adds Boise State. The only way I can see it being doable is if the conference includes BSU, Fresno, Nevada, Hawaii, Air Force … who else is mediocre -not bad- in the MWC?

Who else?

They’re up one year and down the next. Wyoming improved to a whopping 6-6. Can’t believe they got a Bowl invite.

No kidding.

October Fresno turned into December Fresno (and arguably, November-on Fresno)

If the MWC loses Utah, BYU and TCU to the Big 12 & Pac Ten, I think it's still a stronger conference than the current WAC.

I know that sounds ridiculous, but I believe San Diego State and UNLV have potential. Far greater potential than any WAC team not named Fresno State.

Beyond that, Air Force is better than any current WAC team outside of Boise State. New Mexico can be good again and while CSU and Wyoming are inconsistent, they have the potential.

If this were to happen, I think what you would see is something like this:

Possible MWC teams minus Utah/TCU/BYU
Air Force
Boise State
Colorado State
Fresno State
Houston
Nevada
San Diego State
UNLV
Wyoming

If BYU is left behind, which is entirely possible, either the MWC could stay at ten teams or pull in two other members for 12 (maybe Tulsa, Montana, or Idaho).

Regardless, it would still be a far better conference than the current WAC. Except it would not secure BCS status.

Houston is a good fit

And makes a better conference. A Houston BSU series would have some good games.

What happened to New Mexico?

Somehow UNM got left off your “Possible MWC teams minus Utah/TCU/BYU.”

To make it twelve, why not pull in NM St and UTEP? Makes sense geographically, although not if you’re trying to become a BCS conference.

Montana is not going to move up, they have a good thing going in Missoula and I’ve read (see 8th paragraph) that it would be hard to leave FCS without taking Montana State with them.

New Mexico . . .

Depends on the configuration I reckon. The Poor Lobos, they started to get better than this year flat col-lapsed.

The poll closed with Boise going PAC 10, baby! Why not?
