Boise State has to be BCS bound.
Seems like Oklahoma has win today over Oklahoma St. for us to have a shot?
Come on man.
What is wrong with this picture? A two loss team ahead of an undefeated? OKY St. beaten by Houston???
Hope for the best. Go Oklahoma I guess?

Word
I’m going to cry if OU loses and another two loss team goes to a BCS bowl. This system makes me sick.

Can we just give Tebow the Nobel Peace Prize and get it over with? Man – I’m starting to actually really despise ESPN.

or not so good
Oklahoma is looking terrible! It’s pretty tough to root for them. I think a perfect situation is an Oklahoma win in overtime… 3-0
Is it so hard to just hold onto the ball??

I know it!
They really mucked it up in the red zone. I’m surprised they squeezed a field goal out of it.

Could this OU v OSU game be any uglier?
I hate that I am forced to root for Oklahoma… how bad do they look? Oh, and OSU? This is supposedly a BCS team? God I hate this system.
There have been like 9 fumbles already. These teams both suck and I’d rather watch any game but this…
Stupid BCS.
I have attended every home Boise State football game since 1992.

Subtle difference...
I just can’t root for Oklahoma. I just can’t do it! So instead I’m rooting for a cowboy loss and I’ve mentally blocked the fact that that means a Sooner win… I know it’s practically the same thing, but the subtle difference will at least allow me to sleep tonight.

So aside
From OU being on the losing side of the game that gave your program some major national exposure. I just can’t seem to understand the OU hate.

For me
it was their complete disdain for HAVING to play us in the Fiesta Bowl. We were looked at as some sort of consolation opponent. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

My gripe
OU has to do so little to get respect and BSU has to do so much more to get any recognition. Sounds like jealousy, I know.

It does.
I have a lot of respect for BSU as a program, but your conference kills you.

I've seem some post on this site
About joining the MWC and getting into a 12 situation with a league championship game. That would give a lot more backing to your schedule. That’s just a personal opinion.
by What_the on Nov 28, 2009 12:48 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I'll restate the question for ruffneck.
Please, what’s our solution? You really think we can invite ourselves to a new conference?

I thought
On one of the links around here there was actual discussion on that topic or joining the MWC.
by What_the on Nov 28, 2009 12:50 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
There was
But it’s all speculation. Nothing concrete. Although I don’t understand why the MWC wouldn’t extend an invite this summer so Boise State could play in the MWC during the 2011 season and then count towards the MWC rankings in the next BCS evaluation.
But again, scheduling is not near as simple as people think. We’re attempting to find a high profile opponent to play an away game with ESPN televising in 2011 and nobody is biting. And, why would they?
If you’re in an AQ conference, they the road map to the BCS title game has been laid out to you by Florida and Texas. Play crappy out of conference games, run the table and ride your conference’s reputation to the NC game. No incentive to take a chance against a team like Boise State, TCU, Utah or BYU. I mean, look what happened to Oklahoma.
In the coming years, my guess is we will see fewer and fewer high profile, out of conference games.
by Nick Kroes on Nov 28, 2009 12:58 PM PST up reply actions 1 recs
This is sad, but true. There’s absolutely no incentive for them to play a team like Boise. If you’re a crappy AQ team, then you want to play other crappy teams to try and prepare for your conference. If you’re a good AQ team, then you want to play crappy teams to avoid injuries and potential losses. It’s all about the incentives!
Someday I hope to look in a mirror and see something special... something like a coach pete protoge'.

There are teams that do
OU and USC are 2 that play tough OOC. There are others as well. Problem is the 2011 is soon. Most large programs schedule the big OOC opponents years in advance and save some dates for “cupcakes”.
by What_the on Nov 28, 2009 1:07 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Step back one second
You realize Boise has been ranked between 4 and 7 most of the season by the coaches and media? Now that’s not enough and a Oregon win is not enough. Neither is a win over the best rushing team in the country. Now we’re asked to beat a OU or a USC on top of everything we’ve done. What next? The system is working against us in every possible way. The criteria for our success just keeps multiplying.
by ruffneck on Nov 28, 2009 1:20 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Let me retact
I do consider Boise State very successful. I’m referring to our BCS hopes.
by ruffneck on Nov 28, 2009 1:22 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I consider BSU successful as well, but consider this
In 2008 OU played Cincinnati (Big East Champion) and TCU (MWC Champion) in OOC as well as ranked opponents Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Missouri in conference. Therefore 2 strong OOC and 5 good in conference match ups. So you’re saying that beating one good OOC and going undefeated in a crap conference automatically means you should get a BCS bowl? How’s that fair? Just to be clear, there is NOTHING “fair” about the BCS. I’m just saying that your “criteria for success” is not multiplying, in your current conference you just don’t have the SOS to make it. That’s my opinion and many people share it. The in conference tough schedule is what you need. A decent OOC win is good as well. If you played in the MWC this year and went undefeated with a win over Oregon I would hands down say you would deserve a shot at BCS Championship game. But in the WAC I’m not sure you deserve a shot at the Fiesta Bowl. Just an opinion.
by What_the on Nov 28, 2009 1:34 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
What????
Now we’re asked to beat a OU or a USC on top of everything we’ve done.
Just to show how “fair” the BCS is to some teams in the AQ conferences. For a team in the B12 south to get to a BCS bowl they have to beat Texas and OU. So are you telling me that BSU with Oregon on the schedule and no one else means you get BCS bowl? I would say you have a better shot of seeing a BCS bowl than Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. Even when one of the big 2 (OU and Texas) is having a bad year, the other normally is on a high. You actually have a better shot than those 4 teams. I’m sure we could look at other conferences and divisions and find the same thing. The BCS is “unfair” across the board. Not just to you.
by What_the on Nov 28, 2009 1:47 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't argue that either
Why then do they rank us so high then shut us out? If their logic is the same as your logic, why are we ranked so high?
by ruffneck on Nov 28, 2009 1:52 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Ranking....
Because I honestly feel you deserve it. With the way you blow out the opponents you do play shows me you could play in the Big 12 or SEC. I highly doubt you would be undefeated every year but you could compete and win the conference every few years. Again we are looking at an unfair system. The AP is ranking you but the BCS is who is holding the games and the money. The AP is no longer apart of the BCS formula. The BCS doesn’t “rank” you for the purpose of slotting you in a bowl. The BCS looks at dollars and that is it. I was just making the statement that although you don’t come from a AQ conference, you actually have a better shot that some teams at playing in BCS games. If you play in another this year you will have played in 2 BCS games. Not too many schools can say that from AQ conferences.

Our invitation seems to be lost in the mail.
Next solution. Win more games?
by ruffneck on Nov 28, 2009 12:50 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry
But personally that’s the only way I can see getting more respect. Playing one good opponent a year is not going to cut it.
by What_the on Nov 28, 2009 12:52 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Problem is...
The rich don’t get richer, playing Boise State. They don’t get ranked higher by beating Boise State. They really have nothing to win by playing Boise State. Because Boise State gets little credit for it’s success. That makes it hard to pencil in those games of which you speak.
by ruffneck on Nov 28, 2009 1:02 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Actually playing Boise State and winning
Is good for SOS. OU got to the Big 12 championship game last year due to their OOC games were way better that Texas or Texas Techs. So scheduling a game with BSU is not a “bad” thing. Losing would be but a win would definately be good on SOS.
by What_the on Nov 28, 2009 1:21 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Please show
Link or something that shows where OU had complete disdain for HAVING to play you. That was a bad year for OU and they were lucky to get the Big 12 championship. They lost to Texas and Oregon and AP was out most of the year. I don’t recall any disdain. Privately maybe but publically I don’t recall anyone on OU’s side doing that.

Disdain
Upset payoff would be immense for Broncos by Pat Forde has some comments from Bob Stoops. Not complete disdain, but certainly guarded language.
Or this article from the Oklahoman on December 24, 2006:
A no-win situation for Sooners in Fiesta Bowl?
Fiesta Bowl: Boise State vs. Oklahoma
By John Helsley
NORMAN – All that Oklahoma’s been through this season, from Bomar-gate to the quack officiating at Oregon to a second-straight loss to — gasp! — Texas , you’d think the Sooners had earned the right to enjoy their Big 12 Championship.
And the feat of pulling off eight straight wins. And earning a BCS bowl berth, opposite… Boise State.
Sorry, the rest of the story is behind a paywall, but the headline of the story indicates that OU should have been given a more worthy opponent.

More disdain
From NCAA Fanhouse blog, December 31st post:
Disrespect and Disinterest. This is the biggest football game in the history of Boise State’s program; to Oklahoma it is an irritation and a letdown to make a BCS game and get thrown a team that plays its home games on hideous blue turf and has bowl game on its home field just so it doesn’t get screwed. There must be a giant gap between the amount of attention each team is paying in practice; Oklahoma may be rusty.
Most of the articles hint to the slight felt by OU having to play lowly Boise.

That is a little out of context. The title of the post is:
Five Reasons Boise State Wins The Fiesta Bowl
It is someones opinion. You can get mad at what people write on blogs but who knows if that was even Sooner fan. I could have wrote something just like that for the Alabama Utah game last year. It surely would have pissed off some Ute fans but that doesn’t mean you should hate Alabama.

Articles are written by journalist
Who are paid to get people to read their material and sometimes create a little controversy. There were no comments made, that I know of, made by the team that there was any disdain. And the post above are true. At that point, that game was the biggest (and may still be) the biggest game in BSU history. It was also a no win for OU, win and they should have, lose and get hammered in the press. You can feel however you want about OU, but they have given you 2 of the best exposures in your programs life. First by losing in such a grand fashion they put you “on the map”. If people didn’t know about BSU before that game, they sure did after it. And it’s possible (though not confirmed) that their demolishing of OSU today gave you a better shot of getting your 2nd BCS appearance. It is just annoying to me when people are such haters on programs like that. I could understand if we were a rival but we played 1 time. Unlike say Texas who we have a reason to dispise. You won one game, congrats. Maybe someday we’ll see a rematch.

Try 2019
That’s the first year we don’t already have a heavy hitter scheduled. We have some other fill in dates but with the schedule that I’ve seen I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon. OU doesn’t back away from tough OOC games like some teams (Texas anyone) but we already have several lined up. They may not be any good the years we play them but at least the names pass the litmus test. The only chance us playing you again soon is in a bowl.

OU looking to be too much
Assuming all goes to plan with Texas beating Nebraska and Ga Tech beats Clemson, the only other teams in the at large pool are Penn State/Iowa (a near given one will be chosen) then if Okie State looses the only other team is Va. Tech. Va Tech wont go to the Orange Bowl against a conference foe then it comes down to the Fiesta and Sugar. The Sugar will take the SEC loser and the Fiesta wont take Va. Tech so the only scenario is if Sugar takes Va. Tech which means TCU goes to the Fiesta Bowl. I seriously doubt Va. Tech will go, because I think Sugar will take TCU and then the Fiesta will be happy with the Big 10 team so adding Boise would not dip the ratings, since the Big 10 alumni is huge.

Boring Football!
Look around at the games today, what a boring bunch of offenses. BSU gives more entertainment to TV than all these clowns.
Am tired of playing the puzzle game of the BCS BS. We should be playing for the NC, why not?
If you figure in the strength of budget into the rankings we would be #1. Most of these programs have 10 times the money we have.
Not a bad year for BSU, next year we might actually be good.
TCU looks as good as anyone this year, they are getting a worse deal than we are.

Sorry i didnt make it to the OBNUG tailgate.
I didnt get to the stadium until 7:30, and thats too close to kickoff for me. :)
I will on the other hand be there for the final WAC off on Saturday!
also, we should have PLENTY of Tostitos chips at the tailgate!!

Joe - I can hardly wait!!!!!!
I’m going to admit to being a tad bit confused on this one though. Will we know on Saturday (officially) if we win that we are going to Glendale or are we still going to have to wait out an invite?

Nothing's for sure
Until the Dec. 6 BCS selection show. Nothing’s guaranteed as an at large spot. They could technically pick a 3 loss Va Tech or Miami team over Boise State if they are in the top 14. Public outrage would be huge but it could happen.

Yeah, yeah, yeah
I just want to know if it’s going to be like when we went to the Fiesta Bowl in 07. Remember how FOX brought a crew to the TBA and everything? Do you guys think that will happen?? Should I be busing out the Tostitos for the tailgate? Is that super presumptive? Man – I’m about a mess tonight. SOOOOOO proud of the guys. Jerrell texted us and said that he saw it on ESPN – “we get a bcs game. awesome”. Brought tears to my eyes. I just see them as REAL people now I guess.
