Tom Osborne's Response
No dice on Nebraska, and he was right up front about "loading up" the schedule.
He did offer the home and home though, and I think BSU's athletic director should jump on that, never too early to schedule quality opponents.
Well, I got a note signed by Osborne regarding Nebraska playing Boise State in 2011 (September 3rd game). He said the following:
Dear Harry,
Thanks for your e-mail encouraging us to play Boise State. We already have Washington, Wyoming and Fresno State scheduled. We will talk to them to see what kind of a guarantee they want; however, we’re not anxious to load up our schedule to a degree where we are playing a lot more great opponents than the other schools in the Big 12. We would be willing to play Boise State home and home, as our one major nonconference opponent but that would be about ten years down the road before we have room to do that.
Best wishes,
Tom Osborne

Only ten years?
Somebody get Bleymaier on the horn…
Boise State - The best in all the land (The "land" being Idaho, and large parts of California, Oregon, and Nevada.)

No kidding!
I find it funny that he would even discuss the matter with someone other than a school administrator. Who knows, in 10 years, Boise State might be too good to play them!

It's not unusual for them to openly discuss playing times and start lining people up.
FSU had an open date, I called teh athletic department and said “If I can get the Utah AD on the line will you take the game?” He said “We’d love ot play Utah.” And At the time , they were only playing 11 games for the most part, it would have made Utah’s 12th so they declined. But yes, FSU’s athletic director authorized me to make a firm offer to them.
You have to try, you know.

ha, 10 years
And people just so easily say that Boise State needs to schedule more difficult opponents. Even if Bleymeier were to schedule 10 years in advance, how the hell do you know who is going to be good?
I’ve said it’s before, but scheduling is not as easy as starting a new season NCAA Football on your Xbox and swapping a few games.

Utah started 10 years ago
That’s how they got Notre Dame. They realized they needed a better schedule for a better profile. Boise’s had a better team thn Utah over the course of the last 20 years and doesn’t have the schedule. That’s what people are talking about—someone did not plan ahead.

10 Years is about right
Most large programs try to get the big games scheduled way in advance and then fill in with some of the cupcakes. I know several large programs that have home and homes scheduled all the way to 2018 with big names. You are right though, there is no way to know what kind of team you will be playing that far in advance.
