According to Robb Akey, he would like nothing more than to ruin the Broncos run at a BCS bowl (paraphrased, of course). If he succeeds, he will instantaneously become the most hated man in the WAC (well, at least in Idaho), as any other bowl the Broncos go to will produce nowhere near the revenue of one of the "big-money" bowls. I am curious if Mr. Akey has actually thought this through.........
The Western Athletic Conference is only affiliated with three bowls (guaranteed tie-ins), with an option to fill the Poinsettia Bowl should the Pac-10 fail to supply a team. (This option actually seems fairly unlikely as the Pac-10 already has six teams bowl-eligible, with three more fighting for that eligibility.) This means that if the Broncos fail to receive an invite to one of the BCS bowl games, there is a high possibility that only three WAC teams will be involved in the postseason.
With Idaho already having two losses in conference (thank you, Nevada and Fresno State), they are comfortably sitting in the #4 spot in the WAC. Even if the Vanduds, by some miraculous act of God, are able to leave Bronco Stadium with a victory, that still leaves them in the #4 spot, and BSU still controls their own destiny to the WAC crown.
All this nonsense (which is exactly what this mumbling is) leads me to my final point -- if Robb Akey and his "boys" are trying to get to the postseason for the first time in 762 years, it is to their best advantage to let Boise State kick the living (insert explitive here) out of them. This will only pad Boise State's resume for the BCS, and magically allow the mediocre Vanduds to slip into a bowl game as the fourth eligible WAC team.
So, with a shout-out to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.....Akey, you must choose, you must choose wisely.
Having said all this, I expect at least one semi-brawl during the game (started by Idaho, of course), and I, for the record, will have no problem yelling and screaming at anyone on the student's side of the stadium wearing black.
(Disclaimer: The above sentence includes the phrase "yelling and screaming." This was used so as to not incriminate myself when more malicious things occur. It's too bad we couldn't crowd surf the black-shirted fools over the railing......and onto a nice soft Boise State throw blanket to cushion their fall, of course.)
