Wow.
That’s big stuff… That would certainly solve a few of the problems with the BCS system as it is now. I sure would love to see that pan out.

Houston needs to be a little more consistent before we lump them in with the likes of us and the MWC big 3...
1 great year in the last 30 means nothing (last one being in 1979 11-1)…so let’s hold our horses on Houston…for God’s sake, with this logic, we should bring SMU back! Remember, it wasn’t that long ago that Miami (Ohio) was “good”!
If playing in blue uniforms on a blue field is an unfair advantage, then isn't wearing green uniforms on a green field also an unfair advantage?

Houston has consistently either won the west or come in behind Tulsa, so that’s some decent consistency. Also they have a historic basketball team, which increases their conference cred.
Furthermore, opening the Houston TV market to New MWC schools would certainly help recruiting for everyone, even Boise.

I buy the Basketball and TV market aspect...just think everyone is a little too high on their football due to their performance this year.
Even still…with TCU already in the MWC (granted other side of the state), but between UT, TT, TAMU, Baylor, and the surrounding schools and their rivals…recruiting wouldn’t vault too much for anyone.
As far as TV markets go…it’s not helping Houston…so how would it help an entire conference? You can be a big market all day long, but unless people in your area actually A – buy all your tickets so the game is on, and B – those who don’t actually watch the game on TV…it matters not…shall I introduce you to the NFL-less L.A.?!!! In today’s Cable/Sat world, TV markets (as far as arguments) are about as out-dated as a College Football system without a Playoff. Population (as far as people buying team gear, absolutely)…TV markets, no.

I should clarify a smidge...
…I buy coverage for the rest of the MWC in the Houston Market area…bigger TV contracts to all MWC teams if Houston were added…but don’t buy that it would be a major factor…But Fresno does add the Baseball…and Nevada the Basketball…at least as of late.
Granted…Boise adds only Football at this point (Basketball is up and down…never major…and the other sports we are good at aren’t really nationally covered)…but we’ve branded ourselves quite well…especially with the help of ESPN!

I think when you come up with a list of “What teams not in a BCS conference should be in a BCS conference”, Houston is fairly high on the list. They don’t have the monster season that the Big 3 of the MWC or Boise State have enjoyed, but they have been a bowl team five of the past six years, have a strong history, have a natural rivalry with TCU and are strong in Football/Basketball/Baseball which is a boon to the supposed conference.

As others have said ...
This news would be a lot cooler if it didn’t come from “Hacksaw.” Still, the thought of bringing some WAC rivals with the Broncos is kind of exciting. I guess another side to the debate would be: What happens to the WAC? They would most likely have to find two or three additional teams to come up and fill out the conference. Montana, maybe?

I don't know if Montana would be interested...
They have shown that they can make money at the 1-AA level and I am not sure they could expand their program much more given the population of Missoula.

Wonder what other FCS school might be interested?
Portland State? Idaho State? Weber State? Idaho? UC Davis?

Idaho State
Idaho State would have to expand Holt Arena somehow before they jumped to 1-A. It only seats 12,000.
Montana could probably come in and smoke a few WAC teams right off the bat.

Speaking of!!!
Today I was in Holt Arena taking measurements of the football coaches offices to do a redesign. It’s for my AutoCad/Design class. I got to meet with the coaches and asked them how Russell Hill was doing (my tongue in cheek, of course).
The Head Coach mentioned that he wants the offices appealing as he would like to impress recruits and their families. Upon driving home, my classmate and I commented how improving on an 0-8 record might help as well…

Maybe some day Boise State will have you come in to design the retractable roof over 90,000-seat Bronco Stadium.

I would think they would take Houston over Nevada or Fresno.
I would be surprised if they go to 12 teams unless the BCS guarantee is there before the invites.
When it comes down to it, market and facilities play as big of a role as anything. Boise lacks in both areas among these teams. The football success is a big draw and Taco Bell Arena hosting the NCAA’s in rotation is a plus.
Is Boise State’s fund raising announcement yesterday directly related to this? I would think that in order to get into the MWC, BSU would have to commit to expanding the football stadium and all other revenue streams have dried up.
Houston has the market and the BCS ranking this year that would help the MWC with the formula to become an AQ. They would be a good travel partner for TCU and any additional exposure in Texas is always a good thing.

Is the PAC 10 too much to ask for
Or should we ( as fans) settle for the MWC?

Can you meet all of the PAC-10 requirements?
They require a lot of different sports – more so than other conferences.

WONDER IF ACADEMICS
has anything to with it as well

I don't know.
I know the PAC-10 is tough on academics, but I’ve never heard anybody suggest Boise couldn’t meet them. But I’ve never heard the converse either.
I do know that Hawaii, BYU, and Utah have made overtures to the PAC-10 in the past and have always been turned away. They seem to like their current family of schools, and I don’t think there’s anybody outside of Texas or Colorado that they’d even consider. (And Colorado is, right now, probably a long shot at best.)

Pleas God let this be TRUE!!
I say take BSU, Fresno, and Houston! Sorry Nevada…I hate Ault.
I love a 12 team MWC…set up like the SEC, or Big 12 with a North and South division and a conference playoff at the end of the season between the best conference record holder of the North and South. Each team would play all 5 games in their division, 3 rotating games in the “other” division and 3-4 nonconference games. One of the MWC reservations about adding teams to their conf was a loss of non-conference traditional math-ups…this would solve that problem.
Yearly match-ups with BYU and Utah…Could anything be more beautiful!!!
Mountain West Conference
North:
BSU
Utah
BYU
Colorado State
Air Force
Wyoming
South:
Fresno State
San Diego State
TCU
Houston
New Mexico

I really like that division.
The North preserves nearly all of the real old-time rivalries from the one-time WAC of yestercentury. Right now, it would appear to favor TCU with BSU, Utah, and BYU all in the same division, but I can’t see that it’s too big of a deal. Teams rise and fall.
Besides Houston, Tulsa could be a possibility. Either them or Nevada would make for a slightly more compact conference, travel-wise. Perhaps they could secure BSU and Fresno, then let the other three fight it out amongst themselves for the 12th slot. :-)

Evidence that might indicate that this rumor is true!
Body of Evidence:
- - Donor appears with 1.3 million to finish track (interesting timing?)
- - BSU almost seems desperate to increase stadium size by selling stock, after sitting on their hands for a few years.
- - Sen. Orrin Hatch recently has pushed aggressively have justice probe of anti-trust implications in the current BCS.
- - Mt West commish has stated they would add BSU…if it meant auto qual for BCS Bowl game. Possibly a BCS gift of appeasement to Orrin Hatch and Kustra, etc.?
- - All BSU coaches have stayed put, even with assistants getting good offers from other programs!? Do they know something we don’t?
More conjecture,
Coach Pete repeatedly states he’s not concerned with the BCS right now. It’’ll all take care of itself after the season is over.
Coincidence???
What does Coach Pete know???
Who is that man behind the curtain???
I see someone on the grassy knoll….It’s…it’s…oh nevermind…
Boise State - The best in all the land (The "land" being Idaho, and large parts of California, Oregon, and Nevada.)
Interesting
Though I’d rather see how BSU could hold up for a full season against the likes of the Pac-10, Big XII, or any other BCS conference.
Nevada and Fresno= CSU and UNM
I don’t understand what these MWC commisioners are thinking. Boise State is the only "very" attractive team that is part of the dicussions. Forget Nevada AND Fresno State. Add Houstan and Tulsa!!!
Benefits: 1) Potentially 5 teams ranked in the top 25 preseason polls
2) Tulsa has consistantly performed better than UN- Reno and Fresno
3) Citizens in the dust belt live for football which would increas MWC viewership immensly.
4) A houstan TCU would create a natural rivalry, a game that could eventually approached the popularity of the Texas, Texas A&M rivalry game(eventually).
5)When the conference gets split… both divisions have teams that have te potential to be in the top 25 in the nation. IMAGINE, 6 TEAMS IN THE TOP 25
