Over half of the WAC is going bowling, which is to say that there are probably too many bowl games.
In addition to Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl, Nevada, Louisiana Tech, Hawaii, and Fresno State will also be playing in December, and one or two of them might even come out winners (sorry we brought it up, San Jose State).
Here is a preview:
Independence Bowl: Louisiana Tech vs. Northern Illinois
Graham Watson's take: Louisiana Tech is playing in its first bowl game since 2001, so it's fitting that the game is less than 100 miles from its campus.
OBNUG's take: Louisiana Tech starts Ross Jenkins at quarterback, so it's fitting that they are in a bowl that used to be sponsored by weed-eaters.
Date: December 28, 6:15pm MT, ESPN
Humanitarian Bowl: Nevada vs. Maryland
Watson's take: Quarterback Colin Kaepernick is going to be tough for any defense to stop, especially one such as Maryland that hasn't seen a lot of mobile quarterbacks.
OBNUG's take: Quarterback Colin Kaepernick is going to be tough for anyone to spot, especially when he stands behind Ralph Friedgen.
Date: December 30, 2:30pm MT, ESPN2
Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii vs. Notre Dame
Watson's take: In the end, this game is going to come down to whichever team makes the fewest mistakes.
OBNUG's take: In the end, this game is going to come down to whichever coach did not have Diet Pepsi and poi for lunch at the pregame luau.
Date: December 24, 6:00pm MT, ESPN
New Mexico Bowl: Fresno State vs. Colorado State
Watson's take: Statistically, Fresno State has a better total offense and defense, but these teams are quite similar.
OBNUG's take: Statistically, Fresno State has a better total offense and defense, but they also have Tom Brandstater as the ultimate equalizer.
Date: December 20, 12:30pm MT, ESPN
