This date in history: only the worst bowl game ever

This is only slightly disturbing:
Sunday, December 23rd, 2007
Boise State 38
East Carolina 41
That's right. Exactly one year ago today, Boise State hit rock bottom against East Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl, getting rolled by ECU and Chris Johnson and setting the Broncos on their path to retribution this season.
Coincidence? Probably. Today is also Mormon church founder Joseph Smith's birthday.

Being an ex-Mormon who found Boise State about the same time as I quit church cold-turkey, I hope it is not a coincidence. Joseph Smith, if he was legit, would have been a total Bronco fan… I was glass-looking just the other day, and I saw a huge victory for BSU.

Today is the day that this date in History turns positive for all time.

Being an active Mormon, I know Joseph Smith would have been a BSU fan. He was a really strong guy and might have been a linebacker if he hadn't been a prophet (and if he had been alive when football was invented).
I also think he would have been all over Chris Johnson in the Hawaii bowl like white on rice, baby.

Not being a Mormon at all, I would venture to guess that he wouldv'e been a BYU fan. They seem to have some sort of relationship with the Mormon faith.

Not so. Sure BYU is a private Latter-day Saint university, but I know many LDS folks that are as anti BYU as myself. It wasn't always so-for example, I grew up right by the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and we'd always go to the games and root for BYU to smother Air Force.
Now that I think about it, I think it was the Gary Crowten (spelling?) era that turned me off to BYU football. That, and my in-laws introduced me to Boise State. I went to that BYU-BSU game in 2004 when the BYU kicker whiffed that field goal from the 20 yard line that would have won the game. That was the turning point in my fan-dom.
BYU is a great school with a good football team, but don't believe that all LDS folks like BYU. Just look at the BYU-Utah rivalry. Most of those Utah fans are LDS and they would pay money to watch BYU players and coaches get fed to tigers and grizzly bears.
Anyways, that's my story. There are tons of LDS people that would take BSU over BYU any day.

The Joseph Smith thing is a reach for sure. Second Jeron Johnson didn't ply in the 1st half of the Hawai'i bowl. That may be the reason Chris Johnson was non existant in second half. The Hawai'i Bowl would not be the worst bowl game ever. Losing on the Blue to BC is much worse IMO.

At least BC was ranked and not 7-5. Both were bad games with great comebacks for nothing. I enjoyed 2007 more than 2005, for sure.

what always impressed about last years bowl was how the Broncos came out in the 2nd half. you know Coach Pete tore into them. And they put down some offense, the likes of which is rarely seen, only to lose on a field goal. Heartbreaker for sure, worst bowl game ever….2005.

I was at the 2005 H-Bowl. Does anyone else remember the FREEZING rain that came through..? AAgh! It was horrible. And to add to it, Zabransky sends a satellite into orbit that could only be caught by a BC Eagle. I was at a complete loss at the end of that one. We all had big plans of going down to the Bar-De-Nay in the Basque Village and moving on from there. Jared Zabranksy ruined a night of debauchery for me, everyone went home. Considering the pattern of these past few years, we should be in for a treat this evening.
GO BRONCOS!!!

The weather was awful, the first half was awful, how JZ ended it was awful. I was sick for two days after attending that game. My wife said it was from the weather at the game. I said it was from JZ. Besides, doesn't Zabransky sound like some bad disease. I came down with a bad case of Zabransky after that game!

From the Physicians’ Desk Reference:
Zabranskyitis- Poorly timed interception thrown during the final drive of a bowl game. Resulting in the loss of said game; though there is one rare case of a game being won after the Zabranskyitis infliction. Most consider that kind of recovery miraculous. Cures are limited and include beating a BCS opponent and/or completely stomping your Conference foes the next season.
KYB, you don't have this disease, however it appears that Kellen Moore caught a case of it tonight. It’s okay though, I have already forgiven him for that and I know that he will be cured.
